Plex injecting web-show ads now?

I am now getting ads not associated with my web show in Plex on my ATV.

Is this new? Kind of unhappy as a plexpass subscriber.

Nothing in the Plex Pass premium features states ad-free online content.

I think it’s fair. They probably have a revenue sharing deal with the content creator. It seems like they’re trying to do a more curated Youtube. They’ll probably add ad-supported Movies like Youtube did, but put it in the online section.

I think the Plex Pass will cover additional software features, but online content will either be ad-supported or a secondary paid tier, as the content creators should be paid for their efforts as well plus any hosting Plex does.

The day where they put ads into personal Library content will be a very bad day for them. I highly doubt that will ever happen, I think they’re smarter than that. But they need to come out and say that often, as they add ads into their online content, so people aren’t spooked.

This doesn’t surprise me given the direction Plex is trying to go. At the CES 2018 they have been trying to talk to streaming services like Netfix and Amazon to be able to include there content through the app. Some would be add-based and others would not (through a payment based system to be included later). For example, Tidal’s introduction to the platform.

From what I understand that is the reason with the newer versions that have come out recently. To be able to prove the ability to operate both types of content.

Plex mentioned that they are trying to get this implemented over the next year. You personal libraries would still be add-free.
