Plex still feels like it’s stuck in the 00’s as a DVR. “New” or “new and repeat” as the only airing options?
I really don’t care if this is a episode’s first airing, or it’s 12th. If it’s not in my library, I want it recorded. If I already have it, I don’t need to waste time/space recording it. (unless it’s a higher resolution)

Guessing you don’t understand the feature. New will record only episodes marked in the EPG as new. New and Repeat will do exactly what you want, if you don’t currently have a repeat in your library it will record the episode. If it is already in your library it may record it if you have the option to replace lower resolution files. I use new and repeat on all series recordings to fill in missing episodes.
No no, i get it, it’s just not intuitive. Let’s say I want to record MAS*H. To ME all of the episodes are new (because i’ve only seen a few of them) Since the show aired in the 70s I guess they are all repeats, but, and this is a key point: I DON’T CARE. All I care about is, they aren’t in my library, record it. This new vs repeat is a leftover bygone of days when people actively sat down to watch TV when the studio wanted them to.
