Many of times I come across shows in the ‘starting soon’ section of the program guide and I’m not sure if I already have that episode, but I know that I would want to record any episode I didn’t have. It would be great to add an additional recording option to record any episode not stored in your library, alongside ‘new airings only’ and ‘new and repeat airings’.
If you start the recording, you get a pop-up. In that one, you can select: “only new”, or something similar to that. Doesn’t that do just what you are requesting?
The “only new” option is for first aired episodes. The OP is asking for it to be able to only record episodes that do not exist in their library.
So, new episodes and reruns. But, only the reruns they don’t have.
The new and repeat setting is working exactly as you would want it to for me. If I already have an episode in my library Plex doesn’t record that episode unless the episode is being broadcast in a higher resolution than the episode I already have in my library. By library I mean in the library I am recording to for example “TV”. If I have a separate library “PurchasedTV” Plex will not see the other episode in the separate library and will record the other episode.
In the past I was recording to a separate library I called DVR which when shows finished recording were sent to mcebuddy for Post Processing. When mcebuddy was done it moved the file to my TV Shows library. Since the recordings were set to record to my DVR library Plex was recording every episode it found with the “New and Repeat” option selected. Once I changed my library scheme to record to my TV Shows library I am only seeing recordings of episodes I don’t have or that are a higher resolution.
