Add Advanced Language and Sorting Settings for Extras

Since my Plex Server will have many international entries and extras that have been produced in their original langauges exclusively, I was wondering if it would be possible if the advanced settings could be enhanced one day so that users like myself would have the option to enable the “Always On” setting for the Extras’ subtitles. This way the users wouldn’t have to manually turn the subtitles on every time they want to watch the extras for their shows.

It would also be helpful if more customizable sorting options were provided so that the users would not have to do a whole lot of scrolling on platforms like Roku in order to find a specific extra that they would want to watch.

For example, the user might want to seperate the entry’s “trailer” extras from the entry’s “shorts” extras on the title screen so that they would not have to scroll through all of the trailers in order to get to the shorts that they want to watch.

You should already be able to set preferred audio/subtitle languages and configure Plex to automatically select them for each account.

IIRC you might need to use the same options in the Roku platform settings.

There’s already an existing suggestion discussing an option to group extras and avoid too much scrolling. I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.

Hi Tom. Thank you for the quick and thoughtful response.

I will head to this thread and cast my vote there immediately.

One thing I should mention, though, is that while its true that we already have the ability to set preferred audio/subtitle languages and configure Plex to automatically select them for each account and for each individual film and TV Series, what we don’t have is the ability to tell Plex to keep the subtitles turned-on all the time for specific Extras on a case-by-case basis.

Right now I have to go manually turn the subtitles on after I start watching an Extra from an international show because those settings aren’t accessible from the main title screen like the main features are.

That’s not necessary.
Imagine the user is only understanding e.g. Dutch.
Now if your extras have only English audio, but also Dutch subtitles available, the Dutch subtitles will get activated automatically if the user has enabled the automatic stream selection and has set the language preferences as such:
Audio: Dutch
Subtitles: Dutch
Subtitles selection mode: Shown with foreign audio

I understand where you are coming from Otto, but that has not been my experience.

For as I have been testing my Plex Server out using a Roku stick and an international entry to my Plex Server library that features the original Japanese Audio, an English Dubbed Audio track, and English subtitles for its Extras, I noticed that the Extras will default back to the English Dubbed Audio track with the subtitles turned off even though my overall langauge preferences for this library entry are as follows:

Preferred audio language
Japanese
Preferred subtitle language
English
Auto-select subtitle mode
Always enabled

If you select different languages for audio and subtitles, the auto-selection doesn’t work as expected.

What do you mean? Is this an on-going issue with the auto-select subtitle mode setting?
