Add back end time of video

Continuing the discussion from New Samsung Tizen App Preview:

Seems like lots of people have asked for this: adding the end time of an episode that’s currently playing back in.

Yes, please re add this back. Not sure why it wasn’t added back to begin with to be honest.

A sorely missed feature.

Yup, dude you’ll notice I haven’t commented on this thread in forever, reason being I haven’t read it in forever! I talked about what’s wrong, what’s missing, what is needed but more than that I tried to engage in a conversation on the merits of writing a new player from the ground up vs updating the one you have…coz they said they’re rewriting it for better optimization but my argument is that once you put in all the exact features that you had in before then it’ll be as fast/slow as it was to begin with!

At this stage I’m still on the preview version but only just to get used to all the changes they’re making, even the ones that irritate me! For example sometimes I just press the button on my remote control to view the timeline to see how far I am in my movie or episode or whatever…in the current release version you get a nice sleek bar at the bottom of your screen showing you what you need/want to see. In the preview release if you do this it fades the entire video and shows you what you wanted to see, how is this better?

I’ve been a plex user for going on a decade now though so I can see how this plays out, they release a new player and highlight how ‘flashy and futuristic’ it looks, impress you with visual glamour…then in a couple years time they release the next version and show you how a sleek, stripped down player is better as it’s more efficient and does everything you want and need while looking better! …at which point you’ll forget that you’ve had this ‘sleeker version’ years ago and you’ll be impressed with what they’re giving you today. So it sort of goes on a cycle like Microsoft does (did?) with Windows…1 good version, 1 short lived bad version…then back to good…etc.

I still listen to music so all my complaints still count there…not easy to skip tracks, no lyrics…etc. But the devs will put these ‘new features’ in down the line like they’re something new and revolutionary…despite you having had them before but they were just taken away from you for seemingly no good reason. We’re at their mercy it seems, they asked for feedback, I/we have given it…does it matter? Time will tell I guess but so far I’m not impressed.

All of that being said I am grateful for the things they have fixed…skip intro seems to be working perfectly, in fact rewinding and fast-forwarding in general seems to be less buggy than it was in earlier releases…but again my point is that these standard features are already working perfectly in the current main release so why try to fix something that isn’t broken? …or rather why break it to have to refix it?

Another user here that opted out of the preview. Every night my wife and I watch a series and depending on the information Plex gives about when it’s going to end the chapter, we watch another, or go to bed. I think it’s very useful for everyone.

Like I said, it’s like they taking out features only to put it in as ‘new’ later down the line, they’ll likely give us the stuff we moan about the most here in this forum thread but the other stuff…it can come back as being innovation later down the line.

I still don’t see why this hasn’t been added back yet, the argument of it cluttering the OSD is moot as it’s just a clock.
I have the clock displayed and it shows up in the top right corner. Why couldn’t that be moved to the top left and the end time added to the top right for example, or it could go under the remaining time at the bottom. You would barely even notice it.

I see this is being asked for in the Xbox preview thread too, yet still you ignore it. Amazing.

It’s not being ignored, it’s being discussed on another team.

Just make it an option in the settings along with the clock under general. Make it off by default, then let the user decide. Easy.

It would fit nicely under the time remaining on the right.

One month later and still no ending time. It’s a minor change and as 3pwood said it was already there on the old version as an option. If you add it back, please put at the bottom since as it is now with the clock at upper rigth corner it’s invisible if the backgroud is white. I am currently on version 5.1.3 and i’m thinking to switch back to the old version for that even though i like the new design and performance of the preview version. Are you going to loose previewers for a little thing like this ?

@sLumpy Hi. So, have we reached a decision yet?

For that matter here’s more feedback:

  • For some reason I have intro music on for TV shows but when I go into a show then it starts, skips for a second then resumes, minor but it is annoying.

  • More importantly something that bugs me is just the general on screen menu in general, for me it feels too big especially because it’s been given this ‘futuristic’ sort of blur effect that covers like half the screen. I myself believe in function over form so I want the information I need there but I prefer a minimalist view of it rather than something that covers half of whatever it is that I’m watching as that in itself is annoying.

Finally i leave the early version and i was really pleased to get back the old design with all functionnalities that we loose on the preview version. Automatic updates turned off until i see the benefits of changing.

Yeah there’s been no updates to the beta version of late so this seems to be taking some time to fix and release hence I guess there’s no point in sticking with beta for now if people don’t want to. I stick with it just to see what they’ll do next.

…and that being said I have another problem (with beta?): I got a new TV Samsung 50Q60T and installed Plex on it, now I been using beta since before this new TV was bought but what I see is that when I turn on my TV and I move to the Plex app (but don’t launch it yet) then I don’t see the bar above the app showing things like dock or recently added media…it does it for the Youtube app but not Plex.

There is an option in plex settings to show the bar on the home screen. Verify if it’s set on.

I checked settings, nothing stands out…any idea what it’s called specifically?

Ok I found the setting you were talking about. It’s the Smarthub integration setting and mine was ticked. It updates every 10min so what I tried was to untick it…watched a episode of something then re-ticked it and watched a episode, still doesn’t work. Reason I NEVER saw the option before is because the settings section is a menu on the left with sub menu on the right but the sub menu block is as big as the menu block yet the submenu space isn’t taken up by only menu items. The bottom part is for descriptions but the system isn’t intuitive in a way that tells you that if you don’t actually go into the sub menus hence when I went through the menu and the sub menu didn’t go to the bottom of the screen I thought I was seeing all the options but this clearly wasn’t the case.

@sLumpy

Thank you!

  • Added end time to player controls for video

YES!! So excited to see this

@sLumpy I just upgraded my Samsung app to 5.4.1 but I’m not seeing the end time yet, are there any known restrictions?

Turn it on in the settings.

Settings, experience, scroll down to the bottom.
