End time for playback in the media player

Even though the estimated end time while playing media might seem like a simple and unnecessary feature, it’s been so helpful on my LG webOS 3.4 TV. One time I had my friends over to watch something on my TV, and after they left they said they missed seeing the end time on their own platforms.
I would love to see this feature come back as it seems that it’s only available on older devices now.

(By end time I mean showing what time it will be when you finish playing something. For example if I start watching a 24 minutes long episode at 11:08 AM, the end time would be 11:32. See the attached picture)

The Plex app on my old LG TV supports direct play for way less codecs than the Android TV app or even plex web, yet I tend to use it more just for the fact that it displays the end time.

TL;DR:
I would love having the end time for playback shown on all client apps with the newer media player, like Plex for Android, Windows, Plex Web etc:

Edit:
Added TL;DR

Show “Ends at” like EMBY does when you see a movie’s information or when you’re playing a movie

I mainly meant when I’m playing a movie/episode (Jellyfin does this if I recall correctly).

But “ends at” in the movie information screen like Emby would also be a nice addition.

The new video player is nice. But the old one used to say what time the video was ending. It was great. I know I can revert back to the old player but I like the features of the new player. I knew how late it would be when a movie or episode would finish by just looking. Now I don’t know and I stay up past my bedtime like a bad boy! Thank you.

+1

Add it back please

Something tells me this is not about the actual Plex Media Player software.

Otto,

Maybe I worded it incorrectly.

On the Amazon Firestick a new video player was rolled out the other day. I can revert back to the old one. The old one would should you the time something was ending. Example start 1 hour and 30 minute movie at 12:00PM and it would show on the right side that it was ending at 1:30PM. The new player does not show this.

That is what I would like to see added back.

Thank you.

how do you revert back on the fire stick?

ziggysstar,

On the FireStick, while in Plex, go to Settings, scroll down to Advanced and the 7th option on the right will say “Enable new video player”… set to Off.

Thank you!!

I would, but my votes are currently tied up in other feature requests being ignored by Plex. :smirk:

The new player looks more modern but on the other hand is 3 or 4 steps backwards from a user experience standpoint.

I very often have multiple audio and subtitle streams in my rips (German wife) and it now requires a large number of clicks to select a subtitle/audio-lang or get to the subtitle offset adjust. When binge watching a show it is extra annoying because I have to do this every 20 minutes or so.

I get it that perhaps I am the minority here and that maybe the UX wasn’t ruined for the majority that never touch audio/subtitle selection… but would it really be that hard to have a couple different player interface options (just different menu arrangements)?

I know currently I can go into advanced settings and force the old player…but expect they will take this away at some point. Really really crappy user experience for me, not an improvement with the new player.

It appears there’s now another suggestion discussing the same topic. While it’s been created after this one, it’s been able to collect a significant amount of votes. In an attempt to consolidate suggestions and to get rid of duplicates, I’m going to close this thread in favor of the other one. This will free up your votes… if I may ask, I’ll appreciate if you can then transfer your votes to the other thread. Apologies for the inconvenience.

[Edit: merged into original thread → End time for playback in the media player]

It would be nice to have such a function
