Like many people I use the main admin account for admin purposes and everyone in the house has a managed account and cannot benefit from discover, seems crazy to me?
Thank you for your reply, that makes sense, I just hit a hurdle as I use the admin plexpass account to manage the server and added home users only to find that they had no access discover so I created proper accounts to find they had no access to plexamp so having to make a choice between discover or plexamp
- add those full acounts to your Plex Home
- install Plexamp on their devices and log it into your own plex account
- in Plexamp, “Switch User” to their Plex user account
Perfect! Thank you! ![]()
Bit late to the party but I am in the same position as OP. could you not just make it so you can remove discover from showing up in managed accounts where you don’t want it (if the user is a little kid etc). There’s a lot of support on Reddit for this too, it seems like a lot of us use our admin account for only admin (and many of us also want our family to have access to this service)
…or you can show the user a confirmation dialog that he/she is 18+?
Basically, and i guess most of the people understands and uses “managed users” as the rest of the family (may include kids or may not) and admin account as, well for administration of course.
And btw, you know that admin can restrict which libraries a user can access, because, errr, you’ve programmed it so?
Anyways, i already see the option in the settings (when reached from the internet, not locally) to disable “discover” for the managed users. All we lack is “enable” option…
Same boat. I use a managed user for daily viewing which is synced to trakt with plextraktsync and use the admin account to manage libraries and users only.
I miss the discover functionality. ![]()
It’s a great way, to find new Movies or Shows on all other Streamingplatforms and watch Trailers of upcoming Movies!
And for me, the main Account is only for administration too. Sometimes if I show other People my Plexserver i log onto the Adminaccount, to show the Discovery feature, and they like it too. All you need to know in one place, thats awesome! It brings a bit sort into the whole collection of streamingservices.
It would be great to see for managed users as well. But like TV Shows or other Things to be able to toggle per User.
Just adding to this to say it’d be nice for people to be able to have their own watchlists on managed accounts without having to add entirely new plex accounts.
I hope this gets more support, it would be great for me and my family.
At the moment it is being given little use only for the administrator
I would love to see this feature added to managed users, I don’t use my admin account for viewing, only use it for media testing and config.
This is the way to go at least for now Plex. Just don’t allow Discover for parental restricted managed users. Even have it off by default. Even a disclaimer “There may be inappropriate age content from external sources if you enable for this user” blah blah.
I just recently switched from Kodi to Plex, and found this discover sources really useful.
But I like many others have multiple profiles, the most important one is for my kid that shouldn’t see all the rated movies that aren’t for his age. Furthermore he has his own playlist/ profile in netflix, Amazon, and Disney… So if would could keep all of this together in Plex then that would be the most awesome feature ever!
A little late as well.
The “Discover” feature is a great feature, I use it a lot.
However I do not find it logical to “fully” disable the “Discover” feature for Managed Users.
My suggestion would be to have this feature standard on “disabled”, covering issues in case kids would be the Managed Users. But can be abled if the Admin chooses to.
Popped in here as Discover Credits was announced today…and of course it’s worthless for all of us who use managed accounts on our server. I love the “idea” of Discover, but my main account is admin-only, which really is best practice. When will it finally be available for the rest of us to enjoy?
Same boat.
I was still wondering why discover doesn’t work for the rest of the family …
Now I know, unfortunately ![]()
Please give us the possibility to decide for the Managed Accounts if they have access to Discover or not ![]()
Totally agree that results not being filtered for content is an issue, but it’s not a feature I would want on the child account at all. My wife would benefit from it immensely. How about it’s just off by default and there is a warning when turning it on?
Has there been any update on this? It’s been a while now and really feels like something that should be ticked on or off like the rest of the libraries when you add a managed account. It’s a bummer because it’s an amazing feature especially along with the wishlist it really makes curating content for your people a breeze.
