Add in TMDB "Joined Order" agent option

When available options for scraping agents changed to just what Plex allows, this cut away the option for custom agents; TVDB has a sorting option for “Joined Order” that is entirely relevant to many shows (Animaniacs, Ren and Stimpy, Tiny Toons, Etc.) To say they’re less than willing to alter the DVD order would be a drastic understatement. Even errors pointed out with pictures of the actual DVD case are met with hostility from their admin team. Worse, only Aired Order is offered for The Movie DB so users are essentially stuck with a single source for metadata now.

However, there is the “Joined Order” sort option (under the “Seasons” heading on the right pane of a show’s home page) that is often times correct for shows that they have decided to split into multiple episodes due to the segmented nature, regardless of them being aired at the same time.

In conjunction with many of these shows staying in the segmented format in the DVD sort order and Plex no longer allowing users to select their own agents for metadata, NFO files, etc., it has become impossible to have correct information and episode orders displayed for dozens of shows that I have personally noticed. Many (if not all) of these issues would be cleared up by either adding the Joined Order agent, allowing custom agents once again or even just allowing custom agents to be toggled back on for BOTH as an option. As of today, I can still see my previously (heavily) used custom agents listed in the Settings section of the GUI but they are now completely locked out either through the Edit option when selecting an individual show (Advanced option) or when trying to Fix Match (the only agent available is Plex TV Series which does not seem to be altered in any way.)

Would you mind elaborating where to find that “joined order”? I’m not sure I get the reference…

There’s an existing feature suggestion to support alternate orders from TheTVDb as well as episode groups from TMDb (beyond the 4 hard-coded options currently available for the Episode ordering option)

Options / Workarounds:

  1. Use Multiple Episodes in a Single File naming.

For Animaniacs, the Joined Order is the Aired Order with three episodes combined into one file.

Example: /TV Shows/Animaniacs/Animaniacs - s01e01-e03.mkv

  1. Split into individual episodes

The multi-episode files on DVD/Blu-ray discs generally have chapter markers denoting start times for individual episodes.

Rip the disc with MakeMKV, then separate the files into individual episodes using MKVToolNix.

You can then arrange them to either Aired or DVD order.

This is the section I was referring to. I see how Flexible Seasons option you linked would certainly help but this particular option I’ve suggested would immediately fix many issues with minimal/no effort.

While this workaround gets the episodes labeled correctly, when you consider a show like Animaniacs that has four separate segments per episode this would lead to a LOT of extra work just to watch a single part; fast forwarding, chapter markers if not already present, etc.

This is exactly what I would do if it weren’t literally hundreds of episodes that would need to be processed individually rather than having something fairly simplistic implemented for user convenience. I am sure I’m not alone in that overwhelming task. Lol

Ok… so it’s not a default order but one of the alternate orders mentioned in the other suggestion – making this a duplicate. In this case I’ll ask you to comment/vote in the other thread in order to avoid distracting/dispersing votes.
