Add iTunes movies and series to library

I have a lot of movies bought over the years on iTunes. While I know that Plex can’t play those, it would sure be awesome to have them in my library and watchlist. Especially on macOS and iOS-Devices, I could play them in the AppleTV-App once triggered by Plex…just as it does with AppleTV+ content.

Same goes for bought or rented content on Amazon, Google etc.

Any plans to include things like this?

You can add them already to the Watchlist.
It’s just that Plex cannot know that you “bought” them on these services, because it just has no access to your user account on there. (And it’s not likely that Plex will gain access.)

Makes sense but why is it unlikely that Plex will gain access? How I see it, there is no difference to, say, linking your Sonos-account to Plex.

The crucial difference is that Sonos is willing to cooperate and allows the linking of user accounts.

Now a direct competitor to Plex in the streaming market might have a different stance.

There’s a suggestion which is trying to address this. The OP of that suggestion is asking for an option to add items from Plex’ Discover to a local library. That library entry is supposed to point to a specific/selected streaming provider.

So in your example…

  1. you search for a movie in Discover
  2. you check if it’s available on Apple/Google/Amazon using the Where to Watch hub
  3. Some new option / context menu item on the streaming provider link to allow you adding the item to your library
  4. Clicking the item inside the library should bring up the provider app / web page for that movie / show / …

Given the restriction posed by Apple this is a great solution! This way, I could at least see and easily open the movies I “own” on the different other services.

In that case I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes because of duplicate suggestions. Unless there’s a unique aspect of your original suggestion I suggest we close this thread as a duplicate instead.

Right you are…I transfered my vote. Thanks for your help.

It looks like I can’t close this topic…would you be so kind then?
