Add link imdb and discogs in movies and albums

Add link imdb and discogs in movies and albums
if we wanna check if data is correct.

Adding discogs, and allmusic.com would be handy for music.

Thats handy when you sit in front of a computer, I like it. Is it usable/useful when in front of a TV?

I believe it would be.

This is a good suggestion. Until that happens, you may not be aware that you can use the IMDB tt number to match a movie, and the TVDB ID for TV shows. See the Tips at the bottom of this page:

And beginning with the new beta build (Plex Media Server v. 1.18.4.2164), you can use the Musicbrainz MBID to match music albums and artists in the same way.

So what will happen, when you click/hover/activate that imdb/discogs link on a TV?

(On the computer the browser might start, or a popup could be opened, I guess?)

a pop up on your phone if you have one where you can edit the information, or via a on screen keyboard. similar to the PlayStation on screen keyboard.

have you had the possibility to discuss this internally? My post back then has been closed (which was one year older than this one) and in this post, nothing ever happened :frowning:

How would it know which release to grab from discogs? Metadata doesn’t store cat#. Discogs is going to have numerous entries per album. Each a different release with a different cat number. Music isn’t like movies or TV. A movie might have different cuts, but it is all categorized under the same page on IMDB. Albums don’t work like that.

You can tag your files with the discogs release ID - I do that regularly with the discogs tagging plugin for foobar.

I would VERY much like to have a discogs agent - it’s been 2 years since this thread was opened. Many of my albums are on discogs but not on Musicbrainz. I’m very thorough with my tagging.

It can analyze by which tracks are present in the folder and compare to the tracks of each release. If it’s problematic, there should be a way to force a release ID in the same way we can force an IMDB ID for movies.

You can, but there is no consistency for Plex to pick up on and be like okay get cat # 444yfhf. I tag my albums with cat# as well, but that’s my own custom format. Cat # doesn’t have its own metadata entry.

That would still have a lot of flaws / kinks to work out. You’re talking about webscraping discogs pages. There is no clean consistent way to really make cat# line up. A custom script would work though. So write a script that says, after the third delimiter in my directory name - search discogs for that number. Because you know your naming scheme. Cat# isn’t a metadata option. So most of us just put it in the album directory name.

Any chance we can get the imdb link added? would be nice to have for both movies and actors.

I believe Jellyfin and Emby already have links to IMDB on their movie detail pages. Why doesn’t Plex?

I don’t think I need to explain a lot about it: it’s by far the richest music database around!

Yes. I would like that too. I have plenty of old/rare releases that are in Discogs, but not in Musicbrainz.
