I have a Plex Server running on Windows 10 Pro I am looking to add some more hardware transcoding ability too. I currently have a Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 installed which I love for general tasks, gaming, and for my folding at home client. I have read of the exciting capabilites of the non capped hardware transcoding streaming abilities of the Nvidia Quadro P2000 and would like to add one to my system. My question is since I have a dual use system (both my primary workstation and my Plex Server) if I add a P2000 to my system can I somehow designate it to be used for Plex hardware transcoding and still use my Geforce RTX2080 as my primary display adapter? Thank you in advance for your help Plex Community!
I’m wondering the same thing. Did you ever find an answer for this?
Have you tried something like this?
Be aware that there seems to be a bug limiting the performance of the P2000 right now. HW transcoding isn’t working on pms version 1.15.1.710
It’s unclear if Plex or the Quadro driver is to blame, but the Geforce is reported performing great without exhibiting the problem. The nvenc and nvdec hardware on the newer 2080 chip is also producing higher quality transcoded video.
My advice right now would be to save the money and try the driver patch to unlock the performance of the card you already have. https://github.com/keylase/nvidia-patch/tree/master/win
You probably have to disable the driver integrity checks in windows to do this, as editing the driver removes it’s digital signature. https://www.maketecheasier.com/install-unsigned-drivers-windows10/
