When selecting a show from the guide to set up a one time or series recording, please add the option to manually one of the broadcast station’s audio streams. I have one station that is always recorded using the “SAP” (second audio program) stream, which is just a repeating recording stating “this is the SAP audio, please choose the primary audio on your device” so every time I watch the show, I have to manually switch to English (AC3 Stereo). I think the problem is with the broadcast, and I’d like to be able to force it to AC3/English once when I set it to record rather than every single time I watch an episode, especially since I’m recording this particular show for my wife, who is not inclined to watch it at all if she has to get tech savvy in order to do it.!
EDIT: Attaching an image showing the “SAP” (unknown mp2) channel is the one Plex is enabling/choosing for everything recorded from this station.
I think you can fix this by changing your preferred audio and subtitle options in Plex. Make sure English is your preferred audio. It’s not that Plex is recording the SAP audio (both audio streams are being recorded), it’s just that on playback, it’s playing it by default.
They’re both already set to English. It’s weird…it’s not just doing it for DVR playback, tuning to that station live also plays the SAP stream. I thought it might be the station broadcasting something incorrectly, but my tuner is an HDHomeRun tuner, and using their app, the correct audio stream plays by default. Kind of a stumper…
I’ve seen the complaint on the forums before, you might search and see if one of those posts had a solution. Did you also make sure “automatically select audio and subtitle tracks” was enabled in the language settings?
Thanks. I’ve isolated this to Plex Server, I’m pretty sure. I’ve seen other threads, but none that resolve the issue for me, so far. Using the beta Roku app from SiliconDust, the HDHomeRun plays the correct audio stream (as does the Android app). As a test, I installed and set up Emby server (similar to Plex) and its live TV and DVR features both play or record the correct stream. However Emby’s front end user interface is not nearly as usable as Plex’s, so as a temp workaround, I’m leaving Emby in place as the DVR but set it’s recording path to be inside Plex’s library, so we can continue to watch and manage content (live or recorded) using Plex. I really went the long way around the bend to DVR OTA content. I am paying for YouTubeTV and a few other things, and only wanted OTA so my wife could watch People’s Court now and then. After we cut the cord, I discovered that show is only available OTA. I wonder if they are aware of that.
Thanks for responding!
EDIT: Specifically, the playback portion of Plex. I just discovered that my workaround doesn’t solve the issue for me; shows recorded by Emby still play back in Plex with the wrong stream by default, so I’m back to square one. My wife will just have to learn how to manually change the audio stream on playback every time. :-\
