ffmpeg audio filter dynaudnorm with default settings works great without really any overhead.
…7 years now, how are we doing
Not good
Would be a great feature for those with kids !
Only if it could be applied directly to the kids.

I would love to see this feature.
Pretty much, no change.
I’m currently employing the ‘work-around’:
Using PMP/New Plex Player dragged to the TV:
Not exactly ‘PlugNPlay’, but it works like a charm.
(PMP already does this, but I can adjust the ‘attack/delay’ in the Windows area)
Note: would work with Plexweb, but when any ‘device’ is engaged nothing shows up to ‘fiddle with’ in Windows - of course.
This is needed soooo badly and for soooo long.
Please make sure to add it to the android tv client as well…
Please add!
This option to compress loud and soft noises in a single video and across a playlist and the ability to shut off the nagging are you still watching reminders are more important from a user standpoint than watch together feature that was just added. Is there any way to get more traction on these projects?
For real
This suggestion was introduced in 2012. 8 years later and it’s still annoying the heck out of me. I’ve been using Plex for years and the lack of this has always irked me. Getting kinda sick of having to turn down the volume and watch with subtitles. I’m almost to the point of switching platforms.
This is the reason I still keep a Kodi install around, because of its DRC slider. I wish Plex had the option to turn this on during playback, and either have a slider like Kodi has, or 4-5 levels of adjustment (low, med, high, max). The speaker setups in my house are 2.1 and TV audio, so I don’t need pass through.
absolutly wish this would happen i am long time kodi user and love this feature in Kodi just signed up to give plex a try but disaponited so wont be continuing with Plex pass
I would also love this. It seems to me like the new Plexamp app does this audio range compression correctly, and this blogposts hints at using those libraries in all Plex applications going forward: Plexamp v3. A long and winding road… | by Elan Feingold | Plex Labs | Medium
Fingers crossed for this happening soon!
Any update on this from Plex?
I need this feature! I’m constantly turning up the volume for speech and down for sound fx or background music.
Shocked this still isn’t a feature, I’d love to have some way to mitigate the low dialogue volume in so many films. It’s really bizarre going from a video game that shakes the walls when my receiver is set to 10 but plex needs to be at 50 and my wife’s tiktoks can still overpower dialogue.
I need this feature on ios. Have a show with audio levels that range widely.
Simple RMS-based loudness normalization with a peak limiter would be great. So something like the “Reduce Loud Sounds” feature on Apple TV which turns down the louder parts, combined with an auto-lever (something which measures integral of RMS over X seconds, adjust volume +/- accordingly) which could boost audio that is too quiet.
