Watch Together feature

I just received an e-mail about this new feature and I can’t figure out how to use it. I am using apple TV and/or iOS. In the FAQ, it says that you just go to the “more” option on each movie and there should be a “watch together” option. There isn’t, on my MAC/iOS or Apple TV. Does anyone know how to “activate”/view/enable this option?

Make sure you have your apps up-to-date.
The preview version currently requires

  • Android mobile (v8.1.0 or newer)
  • Android TV (v8.1.0 or newer)
  • Apple TV (v7.0 or newer)
  • iOS (v7.0 or newer)
  • Roku (v6.6.0 or newer)

You might need to restart the app for the feature to show up.

you might have to refresh plexweb and or close/restart any apps that were open when the feature was enabled

Does not work from Web yet but you might have to restart your server. The option is in the (…) menu on the right side of preplay/summary screen on iOS.

I sent an invite to someone, but they didn’t get anything. Checked for push-notifications and emails, but haven’t seen anything. I don’t see in the FAQ about receiving invites. Is there any guidance on this?

A watch together hub will appear on the top row of home screen.

If they have a different e-mail try that or ask them to invite you and then you can share back.

How does this work for people who do not have servers?

Can someone who accesses my server, watch together with other people who access my server?

How is this friends list managed? (for people without a server)

There was some weird bug where iOS said that the app was at 7.0 on one of the devices, but it really wasn’t. I noticed that a bunch of apps were also out of date.

It’s now updated and it appears at the top of the screen like @BigWheel mentioned.

If everyone has access to the same source, and are friends with each other, then they can start a session.

As an example, if your partner and sibling both have access to your server, and are friends with each other in Plex, then they can start a Watch Together session with content from your server

yes, but how does one become ‘friends’ without a server?

You no longer need a server to be friends with someone in Plex

sneaky.

what about managed home users, are they automatically ‘friends’ with each other ?

can they manage their own friend list, or are they tied to the admin user list ?

what about un-managed home users, are the automatically ‘friends’ ?

I would expect with their own plex account, they should be able to directly manage their other non-home friends.

Anyone an account can see on the Users & Sharing page can be selected to watch together.

Managed users can only see other Home users.

Regular accounts in a home can maintain their own friends list

I still don’t see it. All of my apps are up-to-date… Apple TV and iOS, they actually both just had updates in the last day… I’ve closed out and restarted both and I don’t see this option on the home screen or in the more section on the movie

What options do you see when you long press a movie on your iOS version?

this whole new direction about un-managed home users not inheriting plex pass features, is going be problematic and too complex.

managed home users get skip ahead etc, but unable to manage their own ‘friends’.

on the other hand, unmanaged home users, get screwed out of skip ahead etc, but are able to manage their own friends.
