Adding a Folder from a Network

I have my plex server on my laptop. I have a hard drive a separate computer on my home network. I would like to add a folder on that hard drive to the library folder list in Plex but cannot see how to do it. It appears you can only add a library from a folder on the computer the server is on.

The two easiest ways to do this are:

  1. Map the network share to a local drive letter. After doing that the mapped drive will show up in the add a folder dialog.

  2. Use the UNC name and type it in directly into the add a folder box. This would be something like \\remotecomputername\shared folder\

Plex can only show locations that are registered through windows. Network locations aren’t normally listed this way so that won’t show. If you want to use a network location, find it using Windows explorer then copy the path and manually later it in instead of browsing for it.

MovieFan.Plex thanks for your quick response!

When I add the share into the library and add the folder it says: There are no items in this library.
However I see it in my drive under my computer.

Am I missing something?

Edit: btw they are in the same subnet/network.

thanks again!

Also, does this mean I always need to have my Desktop PC always on to watch from a Roku devices just because the plex file path is on my regular desktop???

The computer with Plex server installed on it, must be running when any Plex client wants to play something.
