I have an existing PC totally set up with my media and as well set up with my PLEX Players on 7 TVs (2 remote), 2 iPads and 2 PCs. It works fine, but is set up on an underpowered PC.
Since I plan to add perhaps 5 new remote users, I am reconfiguring my setup. I have purchased a new (refurbished) PC that has an i7, with USB 3.0, and an internal HDD large enough to eliminate the need to store media on an external HDD with only USB 2.0 speed.
I am also moving to Toast.net which will provide 100 mbs both download AND upload AND no data cap.
By the way, I may eventually repurpose the older, lesser-powered PC as a second media stream for content I do not wish to share with others.
My question is this. Can I set up the newer, more powerful media server to use my existing PLEX network identifiers? That way, my existing users and PLEX Players would (presumably) not need to change anything. Or, am I forced to set up the new media server with a new PLEX account?
I would then (later) reset the old, existing media server with a different account.
I wouldn’t put it that way. They don’t share the “library sharing” information, but the sharee information is shared (so-to-speak)
i.e. you won’t need to re-invite your shared users, they will all be still there. But you need to edit each one of them, to add permission to access the libraries on your new server.
