Multiple storage server support

hi use case as follows:
existing: 1 HP host as plex server and media library.
new: 2 Dell host as new media library.
on plex server, when i add new media, allow me to add them as network locations so all my shows shows up on the same account and I don’t need 3 seperate plex servers and have to switch between them all the time if i want to different stuff .

all three hosts are ubuntu 22 and on local network.

Mounting of network file shares is the job of the operating system.
Linux provides everything that’s necessary to do this.

Plex already allows you to add several storage locations to each Plex library. So everything you need is already available.

what about throughput? the new content would have to be transfered via the network into the plex media server and then streamed, vs currently plex just reads it from local disk.

What about it? It was your idea to use files from a network file share.

And it’s generally no problem, since the bitrate of even a highend UHD bluray 4K remux rarely exceeds 100 mbps, while typical network transfer speeds in the local network are nowadays 1000 mbps. (wired network, not wireless)
Regular DVD or full HD bluray rips have far lower bitrates.

Using NFS mounts and consolidating to one PMS instance, as mentioned by @OttoKerner , is preferable.

However, note that you do not need a separate Plex account for each server.

One Plex account can own all your servers.

Your TV shows will appear in separate libraries, all of which can be pinned to your home screen.

You do not need to “switch servers,” just pick a different library.

Non issue.

I’ve media stored on a NAS and run PMS on a mini-desktop, connected via gigabit Ethernet. No problems streaming 4K HDR Blu-ray rips.

so i would export it as nfs and mount it on my plex server right?

On my Plex server, I mount the master exported directory “media”.
Under “media”, I have “movies”, “tv”, etc.

The NFS mount looks like this:

# Master Media mount
192.168.0.20:/vol/media /glock/media nfs defaults,sec=sys,rw,auto,async,x-systemd.after=network-online.target,nofail,bg 0 0

( ‘glock’ is the NFS server’s name so ‘/glock’ is a logical top directory for me. I have other exported directories mounted under there but ‘media’ is all we care about here )
