Adding Folders from different servers on the same network

Server Version#: Version 1.14.1.5488

Greetings everyone, its my first topic here so pardon me if it has already been answered but i didn’t find something relevant.

I m running my Plex server on a Qnap HS 251+ and while i had only this NAS all was ok. I had the folder and watched the movies and enjoyed them being served on my Shiled.
Now that I own 2 Qnap Nas(es) and since the storage on the one where the server is running is limited, I wish to be able to store movies and tv series on the second NAS as well and have access to them in my Plex library.

I managed to do so, by creating a remote mount on my server NAS to the other NAS and it worked ok. Until I rebooted the server running Plex. after that, the remote mount name changed (the name of the remote mount is 04032c62b484085abcbbdf3feff328d0d67438a5 one and the other time it is something different) and therefore i cannot find anything as media cannot be found.

Is there another more permanent way to fix this? All NAS have static ip and are of course on the same network and subnet.

Thanks in advance for your time and replies

A different way you could solve the issue would be to mount both media folders on you Shield TV as SMB Storage (different share names) and then run PMS in the ShiledTV itself as well as the client.

Not a Qnap guy, but since you have static IPs couldn’t you create a “Movie” directory, and add folders choose the browse for media button and put in the IP path like: \192.168.1.1\Media\Movies_T-Z

Tried it on my PC hosting Server to my external drives and seemed to work.

Thanks for your replies.

I haven’t tried running them both on the shield, I don’t know if it will manage but since it’s direct play I guess it will be ok.

Unfortunately mounting on the Plex for Qnap doesn’t work like that, I’ve already tried it several ways and no result.

I will give a go on the Shield thing and write back

Make sure your Shield is hard-wired as trying to do this over WiFi will be painful.

Always hardwired yes, not so easy to stream 4K files of sometimes above 100 mbit total bandwidth

I’m facing another problem though with the mounting on shield.
In the past I had mounted these 2 folders from the specific NAS devices in order for Kodi to find them since for some reason it wouldn’t. However, when I go again in storage, first I get an error of wrong password, then I see these two Mounts unmourned and I cannot remount or delete this so that I can add it again. Furthermore I don’t see these two NAS on the available “servers” to choose mounting. Mounting by hand, doesmt work either.

Apart from resetting everything to factory, which I despise, are you aware of any other way to do so?

Thanks again

Sorry I didn’t get back to you earlier… busy week at my “day job”.

So be careful in terms of Kodi vs. PMS on the ShieldTV, they are using potentially different access methods. Plex will leverage the native Shield TV OS API’s for storage access. Kodi has its own embedded in (although if I remember right it also will use the OS as well)

I would double check your QNAP Shared Folders (make sure they are different names from each other) SMB permissions on the QNAP to start with. Make sure you check the drop-down in Shared Folder for Microsoft Networking (I believe that is how they label it).

Also be careful on your QTS account password in terms of special characters, I have seen quirks before on that.

As for not seeing the servers, I would double check your router/etc. If you have more than 1 NW cable connected on each Qnap, that can cause issues as well if not properly setup.

Also make sure you have upgraded your ShieldTV to the latest OS version. There were a lot of SMB changes in Shield OS 7.2.x and the updates have been fixing some bugs along the way.
