Adding New TV Media NOT Automatically Updating, But New Movie Media IS Updating Almost Immediately

I’ve had this “problem” for several months but after exhausting everything I thought I’d see if someone has an answer for me.

When I add new movies, the PMS notices the add, scans the folder and updates it into the Recently Added. No problems there. However, whenever I add a TV show episode, it does NOT scan and does not update. The only way to update it is to either do a full Scan Library Files, or conversely go into the TV series in the TV section and do a Refresh Metadata for the entire series.

In the Setting area of the Server > Library section I have the Run A Partial Scan When Changes Are Detected checked. This seems to be a global setting and not for individual libraries.

So can anyone offer a solution on how PMS detects changes and why this works almost immediately when a movie is added but not when a TV show is??

Thanks for reading.

Look at your agents in server settings and rank TVDb for programs highest and local assets lowest

Like this? And although my Local Assets are not at the lowest spot, I can’t move it to the bottom anyway. I can, but there is no way to “save” it, and when I navigate away and come back, it loses any changes and reverts to what is shown here.

Am I missing something here???

Does anyone else have any suggestions on why the Movies are being picked up right away and triggering a partial scan but the TV Shows are not?

How are your shows named/structured?

They are structured: TV Shows -> SeriesName -> Season 1 -> SeriesName - Season 1 - Episode 01 Etc.

@OttoKerner, do you have any insight to this? I read a similar thread where the person could not ping tvdb2.plex.tv and I can also NOT ping this address. I’m not sure this is the same issue though as my Movies are auto-scanned right away after adding them to any of the Movie folders, but none on my TV Shows are auto-scanned and added automatically after new content is added. But, it WILL add everything properly if I do a manual scan.

That is just wrong and will only work occasionally.

Thank you for the quick response. So are you saying that with me writing out the word “Season” and “Episode” that it is preventing the auto scan when new files are added? Because when I do a manual Scan Library Files it does pick them up and add them properly every time. It’s just the auto scan that is not working with the TV shows when new content is immediately added. Now I am aware that once I get to season 10 or beyond, I have to enter it as S10E01 otherwise it won’t even pick it up on a manual scan. But is the sole reason that it’s not being picked up in auto scan because I’m writing out the words Season and Episode, even though I’m a manual scan will pick it up?

I don’t know. I only know this: deviating naming schemas may work for a while, but they are strictly unsupported. They may cease to function at any time, seemingly without reason or rhyme.
Whenever there are issues with (mis-)recognizing files, you will get the answer to use correct nomenclature.

Thank you. I’m not entirely sure that this will fix it, but I will do a couple of more tests. I know that there are some shows where I do have them named properly without the words season or episode written out. They don’t seem to Auto add either. But I will tinker with it some more.
