Hi all,
Sorry if this kind of question has been asked a million times before, Im new at this.
So, I have movies on my home pc and use plex to view them on my ipad when Im home or on tv’s in the house. All works well. I paid the one time $5 charge.
Now Id like to add my sons ipad to the network, I downloaded the plex app to his ipad, signed in using my account details (Im using google, not apple for account logins). Everything shows up ok but he keeps getting the one minute limit pop up despite being logged in to my account, he does have a different apple id to me but we’re not using that for sign ins. Whats the easiest way to handle this ? Just pay another $5?
The $5 app unlock has nothing to do with your Plex account.
It is bound to the app store account (in this case the AppleID) which bought it.
Which means if you want to unlock another iOS device with the same payment, it must be signed into the same AppleID as yours.

I heard there is something like “Family sharing” for apps in the Apple ecosystem, but I have no experience with that.
In any case, if you neither want to use Apple Family Sharing, nor want to put your family’s device(s) onto your own AppleID, there is only the way to buy the unlock a second time.
(Just for the sake of completeness: with a Plex Pass, all your mobile devices and all of your family’s mobile devices are unlocked by it. )
[The $5 app store unlock is not a Plex Pass.]
Thanks Otto for a very clear and speedy reply. That was just the info I needed. Much Obliged.
