Adding Very Basic Music Library

I was wondering if there was a way to load a music library with NOTHING at all but folder structure?

I ask this because I have my specially tagged and cover arted library that is a work in progress but there is 0 way ill be able to do this to the master library, it would take a team of people working on it and researching missing info for weeks to get it right.

if i could add this as nothing more than just a list of folders and subfolders with no tagging artists and such, just like viewing in windows explorer and clicking the song i want, this would allow me to add the HUGE library without making an utter mess of even a second music library entry, it would be so horrid i just couldn’t do it, so many songs have hex code in tags, numbers, garbage like that. I did my best to make file names work as i built it over many many years, however not even media monkey file name tagging can save this library from utter tag doom.

Oh BTW thanks for getting this back online, i though i deleted my account accidentally, i was working with its settings when it went down eek

Server Version#: latest version
Player Version#: a bunch

There’s no way to stop Plex from creating its Artist/Album views, but you can change the view to ‘Folders’ and you’ll see, and browse by, the folder structure (without artwork).

using folder mode, won’t show you filename or path, so if there are no tags, you will not get much to see.

plex is not much of a music manager, its more of a music playback system.

it does not change tags or update any file metadata.

yeah i saw that, my metadata would be HUGE and not worth it, heck it could take weeks to go through it, it really is a monstrosity, at the time tags were considered kind of irrelevant, i built it on folder structure. oh well thx anyway

if you want something to manage/edit/tag your music, I would recommend mediamonkey.

If your folder structure happens to meet Plex’s needs, Plex may be able to use the folder structure in lieu of tags to organize the library.

But even if it doesn’t, the Folder view doesn’t rely on metadata at all. It simply reflects your folder structure.
But if the folder structure is all you care to go by anyway, Plex may simply not be the right app for your needs.

When I use folder structure Plex adds crap from one folder to many other folders. Example I add Genesis folder with Bible mp3, then add Exodus folder. Some how some files from exodus wind up in Genesis. What good is folder structure if it adds crap from random folders. Maybe add a new library type for mp3 that does not search for metadata or try to restructure your files.
Does any one know how to keep folders as they are and not combine folder content while USING FOLDER STRUCTURE option?

Yes mine crashes every time I try to scan in the 400gb music library because I cannot tell it I want folder names and file names only like media monkey does, the media scanners are awesome until you want to shut one off for a specific reason

Plex is the right option, I have movies, tv, videos, live tv and dvr, and a nice clean library. Then a mass of unclean music that will never be organized due to being SO huge
