I’m a lifetime pass Plexer… love it and that you are always adding functionality. I have a question / feature request if it doesn’t current exist.

My entire family uses Plex. Is there a way to have multiple users so Kids can only see kids stuff and my wife will see her titles (rather than sifting through all of mine)? I know the wife one is easily fixed with a playlist, but I’m envisioning a Netflix style user choice at the top of the experience. Does this exist?

Next, I like organization. I would love the ability (if it doesn’t exist) to create additional catalog types. For example, right now there are movies, TV shows, and home videos. What about the ability to create new ones, for example “Live Music.” You would still have to set it up as a type of catalog (video in this case) but it would allow me to keep my Live Music Concert DVD Rips separate from everything else. I see it going one further like “Workout Videos” or “Vintage Cartoons.” Essentially giving me the flexibility to be as detailed as I’d want to be.
If anyone has a work around for this type of thing, I’d love to hear it!
Thanks!
Managed Users (or each user having their own Plex.tv account) can accomplish what you want for your first bullet, as has been mentioned. You can put in tags based on the “Sharing” setting on each media item. Then you just enable each account to see the appropriate content by turning on the “Restrictions” for the sharing tags you set. They only see what you give them access to. You restrict what they don’t see by omitting the sharing tag from the account’s “Restrictions”. (I know, sounds backwards, according to the name, but it is what it is…)
Remember, you share libraries with your users. And further restrict their access by using the “Sharing” tags. Everyone I share with has access to Movies. ALL of my movies are in this library. But any movies with extreme violence are tagged as such, so someone squeamish doesn’t get that tag on their “Restrictions” so they never see the movie.
Another way to do what you want for number 2, would be to make separate libraries for each type of media you have. A “Work Out Videos” library, “Vintage Cartoons” etc. Since these are likely to need separate agents to match them to existing metadata anyway, having separate libraries makes even more sense. Set the entire library of the given type to the agent that finds it, and then everything you add should be found by default.
If you want someone to see all of the libraries, you need to share them out. And then restrict access to specific movies/shows with the “Restrictions” and “Sharing” tags.

Mike… what do you mean “the agent that finds it” I’m confused by this bit here… Thank you in advance.
