Just got an ad in the form of a notification on my iphone. It said «Discover binge worthy shows» or something along those lines. Clicked it and I opened up my own content of tv shows.
This is really unacceptable as it is my own content, and I don’t need to be reminded about «discovering» binge worthy shows among my own content. What it the point? We have so much noise already in today’s society.
On the other hand, I am not saying you should start using the notification systems to spam about binge worthy content on Plex Live. (AKA your content)
Please don’t abuse your users trust and just use common sense from herein.
You’re wrong about your assumption. It opened up the Plex general view.
But if this was a form of Plex displaying notifications as ads of their own plex live stuff (which didn’t quite go according to plan), which I have disabled everywhere (or to the extent that’s possible), to get ad revenue, that’d be an even bigger abuse of the system and I’d immediately turn off notifications.
The point is not being able to turn off notifications. I know I can do that. It’s not even about displaying ads through notifications. I’ll even accept that once in a while as long as it’s relevant: big news, or an once a year ad for black friday. But
Since consumers can turn off notifications, plus when you have turned it off, chances are it’s gonna stay off, that in itself keeps the apps/companies from abusing the system too much. It’s in their best interest that notifications stays on.
I think this relevant feedback for the team. If they are going to keep advertising this way, then yes, it’s not the end of the world but I will be switching off notifications.
