How do I stop the notifications?

Basically, title.

Plex keeps firing off notifications promoting the TV service. I’ve attached screenshots that show everything is disabled. This basically breaks Apple’s rules with regards to promotional notifications too, as I haven’t explicitly consented to these.

Can someone from Plex confirm this is the intended behaviour?

The notification you are seeing isn’t one controlled by the settings in the Plex app.

You have to turn off notifications in iOS Settings for individual apps (Plex).

Sorry, I’m not very familiar with iPhone but found this;

Try Settings → Account → Newsletter

So it is in direct violation of Apple’s notification rules. I’ll find out where I can report this with them. Thanks!

Did you find the setting to turn them off?

Yes and no. Yes because the app is now completely silenced after I’ve tried disabling everything, and no because they’re breaking the App Store guidelines by not letting me opt-out of these.

It can’t be both, you either found the setting or you didn’t. It sounds like you did. Did you do it through the iOS settings?

iOS and Android both have app level notification control for this reason.

What I mean is that this type of notification should be an option within Plex. As it stands they’re holding a few features I used to use hostage so they can push me their promotional crap I don’t care about.

So yes, I found the setting. No, this is not the way I should have to do this.

I think you’re right. It’s my understanding that Apple requires in-app consent for marketing messages.

The notifications for those settings on android only seem to get delivered inside the Plex app itself

I don’t have notifications for Plex blocked in the phone settings and I still get no notifications delivered to the home screen at all

I wouldn’t even know how to enable those if I wanted them (I DON’T)

Maybe I denied access for those when I installed the app and don’t recall

It sounds to me like you did give permission to have notifications delivered to the home screen you just though you could pick and choose which ones you got

If you let one notification through it leaves the tunnel open for whatever notifications the app wants to send

While this is irritating I think this is a standard practice and not exclusive to just Plex

What I was referring to are Apple’s guidelines, 4.5.4 here.

But I dunno what counts as a “Push” notification.

And I haven’t gotten multiple of these messages like OP.

I haven’t received sny on Android devices. Is it part of a Plex account setting maybe?

Every other app I allow notifications on either a) hasn’t done this yet or b) lets me opt out of this kind of notification.

I’d love to get someone from Plex to comment on this but they seem to be cowering for some reason. My attempted contact on Twitter didn’t work either.

Looking for a Plex employee to confirm whether this is intended behaviour.

Basically I’m being inundated with these promotional notifications about the TV service I couldn’t care less about, and have no way to disable them. The only way to remove them is to disable notifications entirely, which strips away a bunch of other features I actually enjoy using.

I’d like to at least get an acknowledgement that this is the intended behaviour, or a way to get a refund from the lifetime pass I purchased last month, seen as this app is more annoying than useful right now.

Mod-Edit: moved this to the existing thread/discussion; please don’t cross/double post

@tom80H I cross posted because the other forum could maybe yield some more meaningful answers.

Is this forum monitored by Plex staff?

It’s all the same forum… just different categories – I tagged your OP as #ios related.

I wonder where this ad is actually coming from?
It’s obviously an ad for Plex, trying to get you to try it. It doesn’t seem like the type of ad that would come from the Plex app.
Why would Plex try to get existing users to try Plex?

Afair, if you slide the Lock Screen notification, there should be a way to manage or silence them.

That works, but it removes all notifications, even the ones I want to receive, thus it’s neutering a few notifications I actually want to receive.

If only…
