Adult Recommendations are not acceptable (NSFW)

i’ve addressed this before but i will again. this content was not from any linked services. there were no more ways to watch. no clue where it was linked from.

should also mention the actress in the original unblurred photo, september reign, doesn’t appear to populate in tmdb or imdb. lol. so somebody at plex maybe had some fun with this?

From Plex’s viewpoint:

I think there is plenty of interest in outside content links. So much so, Plex can turn it into a money maker without worry of providing an Off Switch.

By providing the Off Switch, they also won’t lose any of their current user base.

(I will add the caveat that I and others aren’t all that keen on our Search Terms now going to Plex, when they weren’t before.)

TO ALL FOLLOWING HERE:

I have been told and then discussed the following:

This problem exists in two contexts:

  • Those with servers
  • Those without servers
  1. Managed users don’t see the Discover content. – Please Confirm this?

  2. Each app provides an OPT OUT. I have URGED this be changed to OPT IN.
    a. Further, ability to control in Settings.

  3. There was a major cross-hub content being returned. – Reportedly fixed.

  4. There is contamination in Plex’s metadata (upstream). It’s being cleaned now.

  5. The filtering (search results) is getting worked on now. This will probably take an iteration or two (or three) to get 100%.
    a. Age group limiting – Use of Tags or use of Ratings filters
    b. Type of user (Admin user, Managed user, Anonymous user – streaming only)

  6. I have further urged more ADMIN CONTROL in the server itself. It seems there is receptiveness to it now. :crossed_fingers:

There is more but that’s as much as I have sorted out now.

I humbly request this thread migrate to stating, without repeating, the discrete problems. (regurgitation of previously stated issue is non-productive)

nah something smells a little fishy. where exactly does plex get its content index?

I just loaded up an Android TV client today that hadn’t been used since before Discover was released. It showed me the splash page and aggressively told me I had no choice but to use it. What’s required to see the opt out? Does it require a full app uninstall/reinstall as noted earlier?

@Cafe_Diem

Did you take a screenshot of it being aggressive ?

If not, please reinstall and capture it for me? ( I do not have android here except Shield Pro and Amazon Fire TV Ultra – both gave opt-out)

I’m not going down that rabbit hole. Move on please.

I can confirm the same behavior on Android, but WebOS worked as you detailed. Will grab screenshots in a bit.

Is it to be an upcoming development? Because I don’t see that right now. I tried to delete and reinstall the app on my iOS phone, and everything is as it was before. No opt out option. And while I can of course unpin the Discover section, the “More Ways to Watch” in search results is still there.

Apologies, I needed to click through and didn’t screenshot it. It was the usual splash screen though: The one that allows you to remove it from the sidebar, but otherwise just offers buttons to “get started” or learn about features. No opt-out option.

I can test an uninstall/reinstall in about 15 mins or so for you. I’ll clear data on the app too so that it doesn’t see that I previously saw the screen.

move on? seriously? as far as i know plex agents include imdb, tvdb, tmdb, rotten tomatoes none of which produce the actress that triggered this. so… either yes a plex employee did this, or plex indexes user server content, or plex indexes dark corners of the web? all of which are unacceptable. how is that a “move on please”?

Folks:

“Pics or it didn’t happen”

Please get me screenshots? I will use them to take to the individual teams to point out the errors.

He’s worried about a few folks who went heavy into gdpr and other stuff.

Give me a few (late lunch) and I can message you if you’d like.

It was from IMDb btw, you don’t see it because of how IMDb presents content to users.

yeah i would love a message on this.

Thanks ChuckPa…in response:

  1. Yes, Managed Users do not see Discover. HOWEVER: Managed Users did see outside content in Watchlists before the hubs were removed. ALSO, the problem here is that Managed Users CANNOT VIEW SHARED PLEX SERVERS, so Managed User are worthless to Plex users who shared content with outside Plex servers.

  2. So, does this mean all apps: Discover, Watchlist, Search, etc.? And Yes, Opt-IN is much better.

3 & 4… Not sure I understand these points. Can you clarify?

  1. Filtering of Search results solely by Plex is NOT acceptable. Plex, you have lost our trust on this and I honestly don’t believe any filtering you do will be sufficient anyway. We need an OFF Switch for returning outside sourced results.

  2. Can you clarify?

Thanks,

Yeah, really.

To answer your question

There were different types of metadata in different categories: Movies, TV, Music, Streaming TV , Streaming Movies

(TV in Movies was part of the contamination)

I have been nothing but respectful about this entire issue here. i think a little more explanation than “move on” is warranted. this one was a little better.

My experience is exactly like what @MediaRocket posted earlier:

Yeah, I can agree with this point. I have no desire to see anything in Search results beyond that which I can actually view. I understand that others would like external results provided in a search, but it’s of no relevance to me.

Also, the overall functionality of the Search was far more usable a few months ago than how it functions today. I would prefer a results page over a populated dropdown list. It was far more organized that way.

Yes, I was just told that was the case. If you can still recreate that problem, PLEASE LET ME KNOW IMMEDIATELY

YES. That’s where it’s currently iterating. I’m driving hard on this point.
(each app will take time to implement – so please don’t forget that)

  1. Cross hub content . seeing things in Watch list which were content-filtered out in the main search (aka. privilege elevation – allowed to see things you normally wouldn’t) … This is already fixed.

  2. Administrator Control – THIS IS IMPORTANT.
    – In my phone call, it was painfully clear the server needs the ability for the user to administer content better.
    – It is ALSO IMPORTANT, The server admin take responsibility of tagging / labeling the content so the existing mechanism works.
