Hi all.

I am just wondering whether or not to have this enabled or not.

Not clear on it’s use. But when should it and should not be enabled? From what it sounds like it seems that other Plex users can add content to my server???

No. It means that other clients can stream media to that client (casting)

That will let the server know the app is a suitable ‘target’ for a casting session I believe. Advertise as Server would allow the casting from - I would imagine.

If you like to throw media at your phone - turn it on.
It’ll make little difference if you never use it, so it doesn’t matter that much.

Not sure what is meant by “casting” but it sounds like I should just leave it enabled. Thanks so much.

If you’ve ever wondered what that strange little icon is:

… and you happen to have several clients open in the network:

From where-ever you are (that happens to be Plexweb), when the settings are right - you can cast/fling/pitch/aim whatever you got going to where ever you would like it to go…

Easy.

This serves two basic functions:

  1. it is just the coolest thing ever.

  2. when you’re trying to run one of those blasted Player Apps on the TV - and you don’t have the proper gear - you can ‘fling’ whatever you’re looking at on your phone over there and then go into ‘Mirror Mode’ where everything you do on the phone is mirrored to the Player. There is also a ‘Remote’ mode - some big buttons that will go where you aim them.

2 Is Handy
3 Is when you turn the stream off on the Kid’s TV and tell 'em to go to bed or risk manual intervention.

I just started to play with this. And you are right. It is amazing! So bottom line is I can use my iPhone as a kind of remote control. It looks like it is always in slide show mode, but maybe that can be over-sided if I poke around.

I have an older Sony blu ray player that is wifi enabled connected to a tv. Does this mean I can view my photos even WITHOUT something like an Apple TV streaming device???
