After deleting preferences.xml all screwed up (even more)

Hi! I run PMS on Synology DS1515+ for a while now. Lately performance drastically declined with the server being constantly unavailable … I thought it’s the NAS-router connection (the Synology is connected to the Netgear C7000 with 2 LAN cables) and I hard-reseted the Netgear, and tried to assign the ports from NAS to router (I am not at all experienced in this, so I do not know if it worked or not). Performance improved a bit but syncing between server and IOS still failed, and I still often got the Plex-Server unavailable situation. I read here in the forum that deleting the preferences.xml would trigger a new setup, and I deleted the file. Now the setup finds the Server, but is unable to claim it (no error message, but it is not working) and also a warning to update to the latest PMS shows up although I did exactly that already. By the way, I am on a Mac, disabled the VPN and have no AV. I looked into the router and NAS settings but couldn’t really see anything I can or should do … any help is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for your knowledgeable reply. I was very surprised to learn that a 2nd LAN cable causes issues instead of adding stability - it is now disconnected. Unfortunately, I am still not able to claim the Server, and I honestly am now clueless. I will send you my logs and appreciate your help a lot.

Thank you very much for this. I tried several times and I could still not claim the server. However, I then reset the NAS network settings, and changed the LAN connection from fixed IP to automatic/DHCP. That did the trick and after that the steps outlined above worked.
