I am SSH literate and cannot for the life of me find the Preferences.xml file to modifiy to reclaim a PMS I deleted from the active list. (Note to me: Don’t delete the server until you can find the file next time.)
simple way to get it (shorthand)
cd /sh*/CA*/.qpkg/Ple*/Li*/Ple*
ls

Deleting it from active only requires a restart (claimed or otherwise) for it to populate again.
Have you ever had one of those days where you looked for two hours with every wild card known to man with the find command and could not find what you were looking for? and then you ask and someone gives you the answer in less than 15 minutes.
thanks so much… I may be back
YEP! Having one of those MONTHS!
Thanks for the warning
Does it matter that I had a second NAS active with Plex?
I have 5 active NAS boxes here in my office plus 14 VMs.
No problem running them all at once as long as the Friendly Name is unique.
Well I followed your instructions (I think) and got all the way to claim the server and it will not claim the server.
before you started claiming, did you remember to sign out Plex/web (upper right avatar) in the browser?
If you don’t, it will start the process looking for the old UUID / Account pair.
that’s the part you want it to ignore.
Probably not (I’m thrashing around now). Do I need to do anything to the new Preferences file before I start trying to claim again?
Remove:
- Plex Home
- Online Username
- Plex Online Token
Keep the ID numbers (those are what Plex.tv uses for shares / permissions )
With it saved, your browser signed out, start PMS.
open the IP of the server directly (must be on the SAME subnet)
Got this message when I tried to log directly to the PMS with ip:32400
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
Looks like I messed up the xml file. I did keep the original and will try again to follow the instructions.
I’m going to bed. One last piece of information. I can log in to the PMS from almost anywhere (my ddns) but when I use the ip address:32400 I get the Message that the XML file does not appear to have and style information associated with it. I will try again tomorrow.
thanks for the help. I know we can figure this out and i appreciate the effort on your part.
As I was leaving crazy enough on my Apple TV I could get to my media but the menu system was screwed up.
When you go to the host, you forgot the /web part of the URL
http://IP.addr.of.host:32400/web
You are a gentleman and a scholar. Thanks so much. You are a real good person to know.
Much to your chagrin
thanks again
I’m glad to be of help. That’s why I’m here.
