After PMS Upgrade to 1.22.1.4228 web browser won't play media

Do you have a “Plex Home” enabled? If so, do you have “Automatically Sign In” disabled?

If this is the case can you please try to enable “Automatically Sign In” and refresh the browser?

Here’s a zip with my logs. I’ve obfuscated a few personal things (an email address and an IP address), but left it otherwise as-is.

As I feared, I don’t even see it trying to play/transcode. I don’t understand windows.

I’ve asked some of the Windows team to come look

Going to need some details on what failed. I see several things getting played. Monty Python’s Flying Circus, The Night Manager, and Wreck It Ralph. Also, there is no need to mask your local IP. It actually makes it harder to look for problems.

So that’s the thing - everything is failing. Nothing plays, no matter what it is, source file type, client device, client browser - nothing plays. The server is a Win10 as mentioned, and it can’t play anything (regardless of browser). Client devices are all laptops/desktops, running either Win10 or Linux. Tried Chrome and Firefox on several of them, nothing works.

Thanks for looking into this, I hope masking things didn’t make anything unduly frustrating.

Like I said, the log you provided did show things playing so I don’t see any issues there. Providing the log from a Plex client might be better. Plex Web App Logs | Plex Support

That’s strange - it shows things playing in the last few minutes leading up to the end of the log? Those would be the things that failed to play.

Attached is a web player log from a Win10 client device, in Brave browser (to avoid any add-ons/extensions causing issues). I clicked two or three things to play, all failed to play:

20210330_WebPlayerLog.txt (15.1 KB)

Web logs are not retroactive. You need to enable it, try playback, then grab the logs.

Yeah I did that. Web logging was turned off before, so the things you see there are all while the issue was there.

Hmm. That log only covers 3s and there is no playback info.

It wouldn’t surprise me that the log is short - I enabled logging, then went to the home screen and just randomly clicked a few things to play, but since none of them played and nothing happened, it was done pretty quickly.

At this point, as I’m still able to download the actual files to clients and watch them in VLC, I’m resigned to just waiting for the next version and hoping the issue goes away after the upgrade.

So when i bring up the console in the web browser i seem to get an interesting error when i click play. (which may explain why the web player works fine on the plex server directly but not on the local network clients)

the web player seems to be attempting to load resources (or the media) from 127.0.0.1 which obviously won’t work on the client (but will work on the server as it’s running PMS)

If using FireFox as the web browser, consider allowing CORS .

Firefox got stricter.

@ChuckPa Currently using new Microsoft Edge

but the issue is happening in Edge (desktop), Firefox (desktop) and Safari (iOS) identically

Yeah I’m also getting the exact same thing in Firefox (on Win 10 and Linux), Chrome (Win10) and Brave (Win10), so I don’t really think it’s a browser thing.

Same problem in Linux too.

“Me too” without log = Nothing actionable.

Sorry :man_shrugging:

I can help only when I can see what’s happening.

Same issue, started on 1.22.1.4228 and still present on 1.22.1.4275. Platform is synology dsm 6. Problem exists across all browsers. Can share logs privately and willing to do any interactive tshooting needed.

Can Confirm that issues persists in 1.22.1.4275

Looks like it was corrected in Version 1.22.2.4282

Thanks Team Plex.

@ChuckPa Your awesome keep up the great work.
