After PMS Upgrade to 1.22.1.4228 web browser won't play media

Server Version#: 1.22.1.4228
Player Version#: web browser from LAN at (https://ip.ip.ip.ip:32400/web)

Works normally on Roku’s and Android apps. Web browsers (Firefox, Edge, and Chrome) will display full server GUI with all content but will not play media (video’s or music).

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

DEBUG logs which capture what’s happening also greatly appreciated :slight_smile:

I have the the same issue. Plex running on Synology DSM 6. Selecting media to play will not play through Firefox, Chrome. When trying to play media the client see’s this.

I can PM you logs but I don’t see the option .

Attached are logs after a server reboot this morning, if you would like the entire zip file I can provide that as well. Thanks in advance.

Here’s where you select uploading files.

Which version of PMS are you running?

Also having the same problem immediately after upgrading to 1.22.1.4228

Direct connections to the Plex server via web browser on desktop via

http://ipaddress:32400/web/

will show all content but nothing happens when you click play. Accessing the same server via plex.tv works fine.

However accessing the web player via http://localhost:32400/web/ ON the plex server itself DOES work. No external web clients can play media via direct connection to the server though

I’m running a command line server, the “localhost” test would be nice to conduct.

Thanks for the additional details hopefully it will aid in troubleshooting.

@sirgefro

Do you use a certificate (your own FQDN) imported to PMS?

I get the same 3 error lines and am tracking an issue.

I don’t use certificates or FQDN, the closest thing I have is “secure connections” under Settings > Network.

I changed it from “required” to “preferred” and it allowed Chrome browser to play media. Attached are the logs from this morning.

My secure connections was already set to preferred unfortunately so this doesn’t correct my issue.

It’s strange though, it only works in Chrome and no other browser.

@sirgefro

What would have helped me the most is seeing PMS start (which exists in the rollover logs)

The startup sequence shows me where PMS loads its certificates.

To step toward resolving, I have reset your certificate.

Please restart the server.

I powered it down at 1937 and rebooted at 1952, attached are the logs from this morning as well.

Thanks for all of you’re doing.

@sirgefro

Since I reset your certificate, have you restarted the apps?

The SSLv3 error is causing this.

I’ve seen it but cannot identify it.

i’m going to send you a DM.

In that DM, I’d like you to conduct a test.
I’m requesting in DM because it shows the certificates and keys to your server.
Such things should not be open to the public :wink:

I’m having the exact same issue.

Server is a Win10 desktop. Everything was working perfectly until I installed 1.22.1.4228 today.

The various other devices on my network (mixed Linux and Windows, all going to plex via browser) can see all the library contents fine, navigate through movies/series/episode metadata/catalogues fine, but are completely incapable of playing anything.

Clicking the play button in the middle of the cover/poster does nothing; going into the movie/episode and clicking the “Play” button there does nothing.

Thankfully I can still download the media files to local devices and play them in VLC, but this is really frustrating.

I don’t use “secure connections” nor do I have any certificates etc. in Settings > Network.

Edit to add: Tried rolling back to the previous version (thankfully I was able to get a copy), but it doesn’t want to let me do that - says “plex is already installed”. I guess I’ll have to uninstall/reinstall, but it’d be nice to be able to roll back and keep my playlists/settings/etc. Then when Plex fixes whatever is broken here I can install that version.

Please state specifically which client apps and versions do not play as well as those which do.

Also be advised, this is a Linux thread. We cannot do much for Windows.

No Plex client apps used, but I’ve tried to play media in up-to-date versions of Chrome, Firefox, and Brave browser in Linux and in Win10 client machines, with no success. That’s why I suspect it’s server-side.

I didn’t realize this was a linux specific thread - I see that now, at the top of the page, apologies if I’m derailing somewhat. It’s just that the thread title and posts perfectly describe what I’m also seeing, with a Win10 server, so this looked like my best shot at resolving things.

@ODQuxnHt8f

Let’s figure out what’s happening with your server.

  1. Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced
  2. Make certain DEBUG logging is checked
  3. Make certain VERBOSE logging is NOT checked
  4. Click SAVE (at the bottom) if you make any changes.
  5. Now restart Plex
  6. Wait 2 minutes for it to startup and stabilize. (i will be able to see everything without interruption)
  7. Now play one thing which fails with one browser
  8. Close the browser
  9. Open another browser and play something else
  10. When done,
  11. Settings - Server - Troubleshooting (lower left pane) - Download Logs
  12. Attach that ZIP file here for me to examine.

@ChuckPa Please see the attached logs.

I have used:
Plex Media Server Logs_2021-03-29_08-35-34.zip (5.1 MB)

  • Safari (iOS)
  • New Edge 89.0.774.63 (64 bit) Windows
  • Firefox 87.0 (64bit) Windows

Which display the behavior Plex server is Windows Server 2012 R2

@EvilOni

You’re in a LInux thread and I’m a Linux engineer. I don’t support (or know or even have WIndows).

Please create a fresh thread, Add the tag Server-Windows and remove Server-Linux.

Post there please.
