Server Version#: 1.23.2.4625
Player Version#: ?
Hi, after automatically upgrading to the latest version 1.23.2.4625 is my plex not healthy and working anymore.
If I try to connect with my Admin Account I see two servers, WHSxxxx and My Business Server, never seen before the second server, if I try to connect mine so it says is not reachable.
I tried out with the IP and localhost adress but it not helps.
So I restarted my server and after this is only My Business Server existing and my own is not anymore there but I can see my shares and all my users.
If I try to connect over PLEX.TV and my account I can see My Business and WHSxxxx but booth are now unavailable.
What happend here and how I can resolve this one?
Some one ideas?
Which admin account are you referring to here?
The admin of the Windows machine?
Or the admin of your plex server?
Plex is running in the user context on Windows. Which means it makes a whole lot of difference which Windows user is logged in when Plex server is launched.
If you use âRun as Administratorâ, the Plex server is running in the user context of the pre-defined Administrator account. Which means it will use a whole different set of preferences and a separate location for its Plex data folder.
TL;DR: donât do it.
So, shut down all instances of Plex server on that machine.
Log out all Windows users.
Reboot the machine
After the restart, log in the same user account which you used previously all the time.
P.S.: I hope you donât have stuff like CCleaner running in the background on that machine.
I mean the Master Account for PLEX, I call this one ADMIN.
It is still running in User Mode and this is fine and not my probleme.
Was working over years stable but now with the update looks like completely broken.
Look into your process list and verify that Plex server is running under the right Windows user account.
I am very sure that it is not an issue with the new version.
It is running in user mode and not in service or admin account.
Which user account? There can be several.
Have you ever redirected the Plex data folder away from its default location?
Forget the user, that is not my problem. Nothing has changed in the last two weeks only that Plex was upgraded early in the morning but I will break it down now and starting a rebuild of the DB.
In the Plex Media Server.log stands now an certificate issue.
and so it looks like what I see:

I put back Plex server 1.23.1.4602, it works again, so problem with the last update

Good to hear, I run now with the latest version and changed the DB, work fine now.
So the problem is that the Update is adding or creating in some cases a new / second DB and there is no connectivity to the existing one.
Solution 1: Change from old to new DB and add the content.
Solution 2: Uninstall the latest version 1.23.2.4625 and reinstall the version before.
Best is solution 2.
If anyone is still suffering from this issue: a bug has been identified in this server software version. The download has been removed from the Plex website for now.
If you see a second server appearing in your account or the name of your server has been changed to the Windows machine name, do the following:
It is still possible to make this version work though, and restore your old server ID.
To do that, one needs to do the following:
- Determine the
ProcessedMachineIdentifer
of your old server. It can only be gained from a backup of the registry data (if you happen have made one) or through a Plex employee or myself.
- exit PMS
- delete the
Preferences.xml
file which can be found in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server
- open the registry and go to the branch
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server
- find the
ProcessedMachineIdentifer
parameter and change it to the old one
- restart PMS
Please contact me per PM if you need to know your old ID. Please use the same login credentials here in the forums as you used for your server â otherwise I wonât be able to help you.
If you only can use the local web app, but the hosted web app is giving you âUnknown errorâ for every library, it might be sufficient do this:
- stop Plex server uisng the tray icon
- delete the
Preferences.xml
- start Plex server
How do you roll back the update without loosing data?
Rolling back on Windows works as follows:
- note down your current Plex Server software version
- Stop Plex Server using its tray icon.
- uninstall Plex Server with the regular âAppsâ control panel of Windows. Do not use 3rd party âuninstallerâ software like Revo etc. Do not use Registry cleaners/optimizers.
- go to your Plex data folder.
There is a subfolder in there, named Updates
which will contain previous versions of the installer .exe
For the issue discussed in this thread: While you are there, remove the Preferences.xml
.
- execute the installer for the previous software version
- reboot Windows (just a safety measure, it may work without rebooting as well)
Will this install plex again without having to add my users again and meta data?
If you heed my warnings about uninstallers and registry cleaners above, it will retain everything.
I cant find a folder named updates??
Can you show me the path?
Please follow the link to the Plex data folder
This is the Plex program folder. You want the Plex data folder, which can be found under C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server
