AirPlay Audio

I know it’s probably low priority, but being able to play to my HomePod over AirPlay is one of the very few reasons I use the official app (Infuse recently added support for it, but it is missing other features). The new player obviously doesn’t support this, but it is imperative for my setup.

It’s in our backlog but low priority for now and no idea how much work it is, so I can’t say much, sorry

No worries, appreciate the response.

Can’t you generally set the audio output device on the Apple TV (and not in the Plex app) – I know I’ve done the following on an Apple TV and it worked fine with Plex:

Using the Sonos app, grouped my Sonos One (an AirPlay 2 device) with paired Sonos Play:3 speakers
Set the Apple TV audio output device to the Sonos One, muted the Sonos One (via the Sonos app)
Watched content via Plex with sound over the Sonos paired speakers

No, the app has to explicitly support it or use one of Apple’s native players otherwise it will just play audio over HDMI. AirPlay 1 had no such requirements.

If it’s working for you, you are not using the new beta video player.

I’m definitely using AirPlay 2  But no, I haven’t tried with the new beta video player. I didn’t realize it had to be supported at the app level; and if so, that makes sense why it works with the old player since that uses the native tvOS player.
