Album art is coming in as the Artist art as well (Something changed within the last 3 months)

I have noticed that when I bring in a new album in a single folder… for enample: (Behemoth - Opvs Contra Natvram (2022)) and I have the Cover art in there called Cover.jpg. It seems like the server wants to bring in the cover art for the Artist art as well. As I recall this never used to happen several major builds back. Has this change and is this working as designed?

Lets say for an example, the band is not really well known and it goes out and cannot find artist art for this band. Is it using a fall back and just using the cover.jpg? Is this working as it should?

Another issue I have seen is when I got back to older bands that I KNOW 100% sure that I set the Artist art, for some reason, it’s now one of the albums for that band. Here are my current settings that I think might apply to the scan.

Scanner: Plex Music
Agent: Plex Music
Prefer Local Metadata
Genres: Embedded Tags
Album Art: Both Plex Music and Local files
Refresh local Metadata ever three days: IS UNCHECKED
Refresh library metadata periodically: IS CHECKED

Now, I am always updating my artist/album art about every day. It’s fine if artist are blank as long as I have the album art. But what I DO NOT WANT is it going back in for some reason and switching my Artist art to album art weeks after I set it. I just can’t have that. I have been going through and finding many artist with album art that I added way in the past.

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome!

I don’t see this but I will share what I do in the hope it might be off help to you.

Plex will always pull artist artwork when it matches so I wanted control this myself. I place artist-poster.jpg and artist-background.jpg within the artist level folder of my music media, NOT within the albums, at the artist level folder.

Then within each album I also have a cover.jpg (all lower case). I have plex set to Prefer Local Metadata (needed for the artist artwork) and also have album art set to Local Files Only (as I have cover.jpg for each and every album).

Changing the artwork then is easy, just update the local jpg files (artist or album) and refresh the album/artist metadata. Works like a charm (at least for me).
