Albums under Folder view?

I keep all my music organized in folders by Genre with subfolders for Artists. When I’m on the music page in Plex, if I select the pulldown to view “All”, the next pulldown on the right allows me to view “Albums.” I get album art, and when I click on it, I can see the contents of the album and play it.

However, I’ve got a lot of music to scroll through to get to a particular album. To narrow it down, I can select in the pulldown to view “Folders.” Then dig down to the genre I want, then the artist. But the adjacent pulldown menu disappears. There’s no option to view albums, and it’s like I’m just browsing folders. I have to pick on an individual song to play it, rather than seeing and playing an album.

Is this by design, or am I missing something? I realize I could just search for any given album/artist, but sometimes you don’t know what you’re in the mood for. You just want to pull up the list, see what you have, and decide on something.

“By folder” is literally “By folder.” it is the same as if you opened Windows Explorer, set the view mode to “Large icons,” and drilled down through your folders. It’s just a different graphical presentation.

Isn’t that exactly what “All” coupled with Album view or Artist view gives you? If your metadata is in good shape, you can use the filters to select genre.
