Plex Music Agent Not Honoring Embedded Album Artist Sort Tag

Server Version#: 1.27.0.5849

Plex Music agent/scanner is no longer honoring embedded sort tags. I have all of my music tagged with embedded tags (90% .flac; 10% .mp3) and at a minimum all include track name, album name, artist, album artist, artist sort and album artist sort.

I have my music library set to “Prefer local metadata”, and previously Plex would properly import the “album artist sort” tag from my files to the “sort artist” data field in Plex. I recently performed “refresh metadata” on my library because with the server update the date error (showing albums a year early than tagged) was fixed.

Unfortunately, with a refresh of the metadata, Plex updated all the data in the “sort artist” field to a format completely different than the embedded tags. All solo artists in my library have “album artist sort” tags set to lastname, firstname. However, Plex changed all the data in the “sort artist” field to firstname lastname.

I performed a plex dance on my music libarary, and have been adding artists back to the library. In doing so, the Plex Music agent ignores the “album artist sort” tag in the files I add back, and is populating the “sort artist” data field with firstname lastname.

Adding on here to say that this is now looking like a bug in the server software. I have another music library (for classical) that I have not done a thing with, and when I went to listen to a piece of music today, I see that all the of the “sort artist” fields in Plex have been changed to what appears to be a Plex default. For example, all my Beethoven files have “Beethoven, Ludwig van” in the “album artist sort” tag. But now all my Beethoven music simply has “Beethoven” in the “sort artist” data field. And where I had music with “Copland, Aaron” previously (as per the album artist sort tag), I now have “Aaron Copland” in the “sort artist” data field.

Thanks for the update. I look forward to v. 1.27.0 going public.

Well, I log in this morning and find that it’s been fixed with v. 1.27.0.5873.

Thank you!
