Alerts no longer displaying

Server Version: 1.18.4.2171

On the Windows desktop app my Alerts used to display nearly 10 pages long with information regarding which user accessed which media, if the Butler finished processing a file, and any other file scanning that was complete, but now, no matter how long the browser window is open there will only be a handful, around 5-6, alerts stating that metadata for a file was loaded, and then another alert for the same file say it has finished processing, and that’s it. One page with maybe 6 entries on it.

This just started happening a few days ago, and I have no clue why. No settings were changed, haven’t updated versions. Is there a setting that may have some how reset itself that would need to be re-enabled?

Check the notification settings for Plex. Maybe the limit got changed. You can set the limit for any app. Here’s an example.

I was referring to the actual Alerts within Plex.

Between 8:55 and 11:54 two separate users were watching 2 different TV shows, which in the past would have shown the name of the user and also the name of the movie or show that was watched, but is no longer happening and I have no clue as to why.

Hmm. You’re right. It appears to only list a certain number of playbacks and then it rolls them over. Let me check if this was intentional.

Is this something you’re noticing on your end as well?

I run my Plex server on a QNAP NAS and I’m having this exact same issue with user play notifications. I noticed this when I updated to Plex version 1.18.7.2457 on Feb 24 2020. I’m now on version 1.18.8.2527 and the issue is still persistent unfortunately.

I don’t think it has to do with the particular version then, because I’m still running. 1.18.4.2171 and am having the issue. And I’ve read elsewhere that a user running Plex off his Mac is encountering the same problem.

I noticed the same problem that started days ago. On my Windows 10 pc, if I left Plex open in my browser, on the alerts page I could see anyone that remotely connected to my server. That no longer is working. The problem started about a week ago. Not sure if it is related to Plex server updates? Also, I do not have Plex Pass, but that feature has worked fine for years.

Same issue here. Attempted log out / log in, no change.

Makes me wonder if they’re removing that information and making it available only to Plex Pass members. Does anyone reading this not have a Plex Pass and is still able to see Alerts relating to which users have accessed which media?

Same issue for me running PMS on Windows. Just noticed it within the last day or two. This past week it was working and showing me when anyone started playing a media file. Not sure if this has anything to do with being a Pass member or not as I have a Plex Pass but still can’t see the information in the alerts.

I see. That’s interesting to know. I really hope it’s something that they end up fixing then. I really don’t know how to get word on whether or not this is a permanent change that was made purposely, or a glitch that they’re aware of and will eventually correct, or worse, that it’s something they’re unaware of it entirely.

So, it hasn’t been working for me for the past couple of weeks and I do not have Plex Pass. Today, I signed up for one month of Plex Pass. The Alerts page is still not showing when someone streams a movie. With Plex Pass, I now get all of the data when someone is streaming, which is cool information, but still no alert when someone starts streaming. It sounds like a problem with a recent update.

I haven’t downloaded or installed any of the most recent updates (because if it ain’t broke; don’t fix it, train of thought), and my Alerts still disappeared. So, I’m totally at a loss in regard to what’s been causing the issue. Hopefully the devs become aware of this at some point and care enough to make it work again.

Interesting. I’m not 100% certain how it all works on the back end, but if you haven’t updated and they still stopped displaying… I’m thinking it may be a service/server issue on their back end. That’s the only thing that really makes sense if the client side hasn’t changed.

Not that it affects anything to do with Plex working properly or not, but it was a nice to see which movies were being watched by which user and when. Hopefully they intend on re-adding those alerts back in at some point - if they’re even aware that they’ve stopped.

Agreed, it was nice to have that information readily available. Any chance of getting some official feedback on this? Will this function be returning?

Version 1.18.9.2571 now installed. Log out / log in. Issue (reduced feature?) continues to exist. Plex Pass subscriber.

I had seen that a new version was out, but held off on installing it because right now Plex works for me when I have my VPN running, and if I installed the newest update, didn’t get a fix for the Alerts issue and I lost connectivity to Plex while using my VPN, well, that would really suck. In short: thanks for the update to let us know the newest version does not resolve this matter.

I’d really like to hear from the devs if they’ve simply decided to do away with presenting that information in the Alerts, or at the very least are aware of it, and are hopefully working on reinstating it at some point in the future.

Hi there MovieFan,

Did you ever find out if these alerts were removed intentionally or accidentally?

Any update is appreciated, thanks!
