Alex can no longer find any music

Server Version#: 1.19.1.2621

Using the Plex for Alexa skill I usually have no problem playing music. Recently I did an update on my Plex server and all of a sudden whenever I say “Alexa ask Plex to play the album something or other” I get the response “I couldn’t find the album something or other on Media Library”. The name of my library is Media Library in case you hadn’t guessed.

If I just ask Plex to play some music then it plays a radio station, like it can’t see any media.

I tried just saying “Alexa open Plex” and it asked if I wanted to listen to a particular album that I listen to often, and I said yes. It then started playing that album (Guardians awesome mix vol 2 for those that are interested). I confirmed on the web interface that it was definitely playing from my Plex server, so the music will play. For some reason though, Alexa no longer thinks there is any there.

I have tried updating the server again, and also disabling and re-enabling the Plex skill on Alexa.

Help.

Thanks,

Russ

Here is the server output when I ask for the album Come Away With Me, don’t know if that helps.

Hi ThunderSpook,
PMS seems to be doing alright, if you can see all your media on your phone/computer, I would take a look at Alexa

I have tried removing Amazon Echo from the list of authorized devices on the Plex server. I have also disabled and re-enabled the skill a couple of times. There aren’t really any other options in Alexa I don’t think.

This is the exact conversation we have:

Me: “Alexa ask Plex to play the album Come Away With Me”
Alexa: “I couldn’t find the album Come Away With Me on Media Library”

Is there anywhere else I can look?

To add, I can play Library Radio, Time Travel Radio and if I create a playlist it will work. It won’t work if I specify an artist, track name, album name or try artist based radio.

Hi ThunderSpook,
did you tag your songs? Alexa is probably looking at tags to find out what which is song is.

Hi Super4Jet,

None of my music is tagged, it never has been and has always worked before.

Tagging only gives options of genres, styles, moods and collections though, so presumably finding music by artist or name should be separate?

If you press the three dots (options), you’ll find “Match…”, Plex sometimes does that for you, sometimes you need to manually go there. Usually, it automatically finds the matching data.

I spent ages changing different settings and nothing made a difference.

In the end I deleted the music library from my Plex server and then added it back in whereupon it spent ages re-adding all the music. It now works again. Very weird.

Thanks for your help Super4Jet. This was obviously something that went wrong in the database though, or they changed the format of the database and something wasn’t aligned correctly.

Glad it worked

Hi! I have the same problem and nothing helped.
So I just downgraded to version 1.18.8.2468 and here my echo plays the music without problems! Seems to be a bug…
