Alexa is not functioning properly

Version 1.23.3.4707
Version 1.33.0.2444-a220eae4

I am just starting out using Alexa for Plex.

I am trying the command

"Alexa, ask Plex to play Wreck-It Ralph"

I get the following response from Alexa

"Enjoy watching Wreck-It Ralph on Videobeast"

Since Videobeast is the name of my Plex server, this seems like it is working properly, but nothing happens.

This is only my second post to this forum, so I’m sorry if this has been addressed already, but I looked in the forum and could not find any solutions.

Any help would be appreciated.

The client version you listed is Plex for Windows/Mac. I can confirm that Alexa is not playing videos. I can get it to play music though.

I was able to play music from my plex server, but it used Alexa speakers to actually play the music. I could not get it to use the speakers assigned to plex player. Were you?

For music playback, Alexa automatically uses the Alexa device by default, even if you’ve specified a different default Plex player. You need to specifically identify the client if you want the music to play elsewhere.

For my test, the client on my PC is called “Desktop”. If I talk to my Echo Dot

“Alexa, tell Plex to play some music”

That will playback music on the Dot itself.

“Alexa, tell Plex to play some music on Desktop”

will playback on the Desktop client.

Ok, that makes perferct sense. Thank you.

Are you going to troubleshoot why Plex won’t play videos?

Yes, I am investigating that.
