I want to use Plex to connect to my Alexa speaker. I’ve installed Alexa app and Plex Media Server on my PC and Android mobile. I’ve enabled the Plex Alexa Skill and linked it. When I ask Alexa to “ask Plex” Alexa gives a message that “Plex Media Server Needed - you do not have any Plex media servers on your account”. Am I doing something wrong? Any advice appreciated. Thanks
There’s a “Setting up Alexa” section in the related support article.
Can you verify you have remote access working and your Plex account linked to Alexa?
Thanks for the reply. I’ll read your link. Plex account is linked to Alexa. How can I check if I have remote access working please? Many thanks
Using the remote access status indicator of your Plex Media Server
- Open Plex Web (e.g. http://app.plex.tv/desktop)
- Go to
Settings
>[Server Name]
>Remote Access
- Check if Remote Access is enabled (checked) and the status indicator is showing a green traffic light
Do a real-world check
- Disable the WIFI of your mobile or use a device outside your home network
- Open a Plex app or open Plex in the browser of that device (e.g. using http://app.plex.tv/desktop)
- Check if your libraries show up or if you get an error message that the server is not accessible
Thanks for the reply Tom.
I clicked on your link and can’t see “Server Name” in settings. Here are screen shots:
Do you have a Plex Media Server installation? If so… try accessing it locally through the device’s IP address (e.g. http://[Plex Media Server up address]:32400/web) or http://127.0.0.1:32400/web if you’re on the same device.
You usually only get those screens if you (a) don’t have a Plex Media Server or (b) have not yet linked it to your Plex account.
