Alexa Plex Skill - was this removed?

I every night use plex to play nighttime rain sounds to sleep. This is streammed through various Alexa devices. This has been very reliable with the occasional need to update credentials. Tonight (4/6/2026), I tried to update / relink to the alexa plex skill and says its not found.

Does anyone know if this was removed?

The skill still seems to be in the Amazon store -

That link worked for me yesterday but said this skill is not available, and now today the link just says something went wrong on our end (meaning Amazon).

I believe it’s been removed from the amazon UK store. I got a notification that I needed to renew my credentials, couldn’t, and when I disabled the skill and tried to enable it again I couldn’t because the skill is no longer available in my region.

Absolute pain in the ass and all comparable skills seem to need an ongoing paid subscription

I’m very sad, I’m guessing plex is no longer supporting updates because they feel it’s not being used and has low ratings. This feature worked very well for my use case.

Here was the simple good night routine:

There was a playlist with a few copies of the track.

Every nite it was part of my good nite routine to launch rain sounds.

Does anyone know how to actually contact plex and plead a case to support it?

Got the same thing today when I tried to re-link my account.

I wonder if Amazon is now enforcing regional languages for skills.

Edit : I’m in the us and the skill still works fine for me.

Are you using Alexa+? Perhaps it was dropped for those users that elected to move to alexa+.

I have theory…..I know I tried to setup some smart plugs and my phone is old. The android version I have didn’t support OAUTH2.0.. I had to install BlueStacks android emulator and the beta at that to get Alexa to talk to Kasa & Tp-Link. It might be something similar

Nope, not using Alexa+

I think it works (worked) in the US until it asks you to renew your credentials. Then, when you do, you get the notification that you need to renew your credentials, you can’t, and when you disable the skill and try to enable it again you can’t because the skill is no longer available (apparently in any region). I am in the US, and that is what happened to me. I am also very unhappy about this and would also like some way to communicate that to the PLEX developers / maintainers.

I have some concern about this as well. Alexa support was the whole reason I became aware of Plex and went all-in for my music. After Amazon discontinued the function to upload your own music to be played through Amazon Music, I learned I could host all of my music locally and still use the voice command function to play the artist/album/song I wanted to listen to on the batch of smart-speakers I had already set up around my house. I particularly enjoy playing a sleep playlist in my bedroom and the system I have set up in the bathroom.

If this all goes away, I will be very disappointed. I am hoping this is just Amazon requiring new agreements or updates to existing skills and the Plex team just hasn’t gotten around to it. Obviously by the lack of response to any of the many threads bringing up this issue, it is not a priority to them right now. I am hoping it has not been completely shelved or that as brought up a few times already, they have not laid off the team that normally worked on this skill.

Same here in Germany - the skill was removed from the store. I guess Amazon wants to sell their Music Unlimited accounts instead of ā€˜supporting’ competing solutions …

(Relatedly, Amazon ended support for older Kindle devices last week. Although these devices still function, they are now electronic waste. )

I’ve received an email from Plex saying they will be disabling the Plex Skill so good luck to all us ā€˜valued’ users who have been using it for years. Way to lose users Plex - well done!

Agreed, Plex used to be a community, now it’s an authoritarian corporate

I guess this is note Plex’ fault - it is Amazon squeezing out all potential ā€˜competitors’ from their ecosystem.

its not been available in the UK for a while, it stop working on mine and when I tried to reinstall it it was then not available, they could have at leas ensured it was still available in the UK right up until the point it went for everyone. PLEX devs suck, they’ve done nothing with the platform but fill it with crap nobody wants and completely ignored all the requests.

I can’t say what the problem was at the time of your posting but it looks a bit suspicious as Plex have just issued the following notice

Recently, due to low usage and shifting priorities, we made the difficult decision to remove the Plex Skill for Alexa from the Alexa app. While it is no longer available to new users, we are reaching out to our existing users to provide advanced notice. Effective June 15, 2026, the Plex Skill will be disabled completely and will no longer function on your Alexa-enabled devices. This has also been directly emailed to potentially affected users.

What this means for you:

  • Until June 15, 2026:: If you’ve already downloaded the skill, you can continue to use the skill as normal.

  • After June 15, 2026: The skill will no longer work.

I am very disappointed with Plex and will be considering any future use. I’m not sure what their priorities are but they have made a massive shift since I started using Plex many years ago. Gradually they are removing all the good parts that made having a personal media collection worthwhile and replacing with a load of second rate films etc.

This is extremely disappointing. The Alexa skill was the main reason that I set up Plex and purchased the Plex Pass.

To be able to play my own music (over 9,000 tracks) anywhere in the house just by talking to Alexa, without the need to keep changing Bluetooth speaker as I change room was a big bonus of Plex.

Is there a possibility that you leave it working but not develop it further.

I did a plex ā€œcontact usā€ and have had this reply from Chris last night:

Yes, we’ve made the final decision to discontinue the Plex Skill for Alexa. Apologies for any inconvenience.
Have a great week!
