Server Version#: 1.22.3.4523 (QNAP)
Player Version#: none available (that I can see) - whatever Amazon has put up.
I can say “Alexa, ask plex to play xxxx (name of music)”, and alexa says playing xxxx from as expected. But nothing plays.
or “Alexa, Open Plex” and then eg. “play some music” and Alexa says “playing libray radio” but, again nothing plays.
All was well up to early May, but then thing went haywire. Disabled and re-enabled the Plex skill to no effect. I’m accessing my Plex server remotely but IOS app and browsers both play fine remotely.
I have multiple echo devices and non play music from Plex. My echo show displays a screen initially saying the artist name I asked for but this disappears quite quickly.
Given you had a once working environment, have you power cycled the Alexa device? Between a power cycle and/or server reboot, I have managed to get past any “stubbornness” in the “system.” Hope you luck out as I have!
Yep me too. I’ve tried everything to get Alexa to play music from my Plex library but still no go. We need someone to take a look please. Yes I’ve been though the questions etc.
This just started with all 4 of my Alexa’s. (multiple generations) It had been working fine, I’d have to say until late May or June if not later. Was there an update that changed things? All I get is “Uh-oh. Something went wrong. I’ve alerted the Plex team …” Doe the team really get these alerts? Do they act on them? Is anybody out there?
Even though I have a working, and static, environment, I find the Alexa/Plex combo is extremely fragile. When the two don’t work together, I start a process where I ask Alex to ask Plex to change server. If that doesn’t fix the problem, then I ask Alexa to ask Plex to change player. If that doesn’t do it, then I power cycle the Alexa. If that doesn’t do it, then I reboot the Plex server. So far no problem, short of the recent fixed play only one song bug, has failed to be “cleared” by one of the aforementioned steps. On average, I have to resort to these “work around” steps every other day. Your mileage may vary and good luck!
Only thought I have is to use the Alexa app to delete the skill. Then power cycle all devices including the Plex server. Then add the Alexa app, reconnect the service, and try try try again. It you get it working, drop whatever you’re doing and immediately go buy lottery tickets!
That finally did it - that is disabling (unlinking) the skill in the Alexa app, then re-enabling it. Hey- PowerBall is $258 Million tomorrow!! Thanks for driving me down the right road.
Mine tells that Plex server on my iMac is running, but, there is no external access.
Fix the server issue, but Alexa did still not want to play the music.
Tried to disable the Alexa Plex Skill, and then wanted to install the skill again.
When I disabled the skill, Alexa app told me that Plex skill could not be enabled again, as it was not supported for my region (Denmark)
I searched for the Plex skill under skill setup, but it do not exist anymore, it is removed!
I start to suspect that Amazon don’t want this skill to work anymore, so they disable and remove the skill.
Reason: Amazon want people to use their music streaming service!
Like you can also not stream your own music library to Google home in any way, because Google want people to use their music streaming service!
