Plex Alexa skill says playing but will not play to any player

Hi

I am trying to set up Plex to work with Alexa. Alexa can detect the server and players OK. She is definitely getting data from my server. But the media never plays, on any of my players. I have tried the Android app, the Plex for Windows app and the Plex Media Player app, all of them perform the same, they just sit there waiting for input, Alexa says she is playing the movie and even says enjoy the movie, but nothing plays at all. I can ask her to suggest something to watch and she will read out an item from my Media Server, but ask her to play it, again, she says she is playing it, but nothing happens.

Been trying this for hours to no avail, tried messing with network settings and the like, nothing changes. I am an IT support tech by trade so I’m pretty versed with network settings. But it just doesn’t work.
I’ve seen a few more topics here which mention the same issue but I haven’t seen any plex staff acknowledge the problem, they seem to focus on other parts of the topics I’ve seen which demonstrate the exact same behavior I’m seeing and these topics have been open since June with no tackling at all of this root issue.

Please can this be fixed or if there is some port or anything which will resolve it?

Server Version#:1.21.1.3830
Player Version#:Plex for Windows: 1.25.0.1511-47afccd4 and Plex Media Player: 4.29.2 and Plex for Android 8.11.0.22186 (a1b8a7fb)

Same issue. Nvidia shield. Has worked for years in the past, yet no longer. Second thread I’ve chimed in on.

Is Alexa working for anyone with a shield?

Same issue. I’m using it on Firestick. It says ā€œenjoy the movie on AFTMM", and nothing happens after that :pensive:

Such a shame, this has now been here for 11 days. 3 people have commented to the same problem, yet still no word at all from Plex support. Come on guys, I used to be a plex pass subscriber for about a few yeras if I remember right and I was going to start it back up again soon, only changed due to some money issues one time, but if I can’t get support then I don’t see much point. I’ve never once asked for any Plex support, now I think I’ll get all modern like everyone else and get on the Alexa vibe, and I’m finding lots of it seems to have really poor support. No idea why, I mean even to say, we are sorry there is a problem, we are aware but currently do not know ourselves what the issue is. Just take a bit of ownership
I work in IT support, people just don’t want to be ignored, they can deal with things not being perfect, as long as there is communication, it goes a long way.

There’s other threads on this too. Plex Heroes can you help?

OK so we’re one month into this thread. Not one member of Plex staff has even pretended to address this. This has been on MANY threads now, what is the point of this forum if no staff are going to help? Really disappointed with this

Where is the Plex Team? : (

Here’s a theory, I wonder if this was getting around the Android app’s need for paying for Plex Pass so they disabled it?
If that is the case, just tell us, that’s a perfectly fine reason.

Just got pinged about this thread. Let me start investigating.

Thanks!

Movies/Shows don't start on Nvidia Shield TV from Alexa that you recently closed is related but not the same.
It does work on ALL players for me (like Plex on my Huawei tablet or phone) BUT the Nvidia Shield.

Any luck?

Oooh staff, this looks promising. Also @TDA it’s working fine for most of your players apart from your Shield. OK now I am confused as most of us seem to just have it not working at all with Alexa so its not a blanket not working for all. Interesting…
Here’s hoping @anon18523487 can help

Still investigating.

Things have gotten a bit worse. Now Alexa says she can’t find my Shield on my network. That was never a problem before.

Any update?

May we please get an update? Thanks.

Also, now the plex skill is reporting ā€œcannot find any plex companion players on your network.ā€ this was not the case before.

I am having the same problem. I have plex server running on a freenas 11.3 jail. Plex is enable and authorized on alexa. I say ā€˜Alexa, please ask Plex to play Blind Faith’. Alexa responds by telling me that I have one plex server which will be the default and is starting to play ā€˜Blind Faith’. I wait and wait and wait…
This was working fine for about a week and it would play. Stopped playing over alexa echos two days ago.
