I’m using Plex with Amazon Echo Studio, Echo Show 8 und Echo Dot Devices. I’ve grouped two Echo Studio (Software Version 5805753988) as Stereo Speaker Pair. It had worked until 3 weeks ago. Now Alexa respond correctly “Playing title and artist” but nothing happens. It’s working if I break the group and use the echo studios as a single speaker. But if I grouped the speakers again nothing is playing. I have restarted the Plex Server, uninstalled the Plex skill, restarted all echo devices - but no change. Is there something I can do?
I have two 2nd generation Echo’s running as a stereo pair with an Echo Sub. Always worked perfectly to have Alexa play music from PLEX from Windows 10 media server. For a long time now, Alexa recognizes the PC/Server, the song/album/artist titles, library radio, etc., it says it is now playing… then nothing ever happens, just silence. So frustrating. Doesn’t work at all. Used to work so great. Now I have two bookends and zero sound from my PLEX library going through the Echo devices. Talk to Alexa who responds perfectly, then… nothing. What changed? It is a PLEX pass feature now? An API issue? I don’t know where to turn. I’m going through the community threads and it appears I’m not alone. 10.22.2021
Same here, the speaker group function with multiple amazon echos used to work,
now the feature is gone. Single speaker is working.
I would even pay more for that service if reliable, but a half broken feature is frustrating.
Also the IPv6 implementation for remote access (which is prerequisite to Alexa music playback) is only functioning with this ‘Custom server access URLs’ workaround.
More and more DSL provider are forcing all their customers to IPv6 as public IP seen from outside because they’re running out of IP4s.
Might also be that IP4s are getting too expensive with the upcoming shortage.

For the Dev Team - there are no model numbers on 2nd generation Echo’s, just a rubber bottom. There are model numbers on 2nd generation Echo Dots. Still no luck getting Alexa to stream. Well, some as the previous poster stated. Alexa will play PLEX music through ONE 2nd generation Echo or Echo Dot, but not through two as a stereo pair w/an Echo Sub as before. Just silence. Still where I started. Ask Alexa to play through the stereo pair of Echo’s with a stereo sub, she knows the system, says it’s playing, but nothing is. With one Echo or Echo Dot (2nd gen) Alexa can get Plex music to fire right up. I did everything you can do as far as having all the devices deactivated and reactivated from scratch, created the pair, added the sub, redid the Alexa skill, etc., etc., nothing makes any difference or helps. What I didn’t know is that it would have still worked with one Echo or Echo Dot, but not the stereo pair any longer. All other services Spotify, Prime, Pandora work fine with the stereo pair and sub. Left a complaint update with the Alexa skill in the app as well. Very frustrated.
I find exactly the same thing happening, if i have a stereo pair of echo dots it will only play music files encoded as MP3 if the files are encoded as FLAC it will play one track then stop.

If i break the stereo pair and only play in mono using either of the echo dots then the files play perfectly.
I have tried creating an alexa profile which transcodes everything to mp3 but it didnt make any difference, it did not appear to do any transcoding and presumably it queries the playback device to discover its capabilities and uses that in preference to the profile.
I am dropping this everywhere hoping to help those who suffered along with me. I have been posting regularly for a long time about two 2nd generation echos running as a stereo pair with an accompanying echo sub abruptly stopping working, never to return. I finally gave up when no fix ever came after months and months. On Black Friday Amazon had the Gen 4 (sphere-shaped) Echo speakers come down to $59 from $99. They are still priced that way and here were are at almost Christmas. Then I even found other deals like a 30% off credit card offer from Discover on a new Echo, a trade-in deal where you send in an old Echo dot and get $5 bucks, but that entitles you to get 25% off on a new Echo. Anyway, putting all these together I was looking at somewhere around 60% off, so I crossed my fingers, and -yep- I have my PLEX library back. I relegated the Gen 2’s to a second stereo pair. So everything like Spotify, etc., will stream on 4 speakers but at least Plex will now stream again on 2 plus the sub. The sound is much improved I have to say, crisper thanks to two tweeters, and more bass thanks to the sub inside the echos firing upward in a completely new design. I got the white ones that match my HP all-in-one white computer. So, better price and better sound are great benefits - though working AT ALL with Plex was reason enough to upgrade. Very happy now until they break something again. I hate to say I half expect it. Seems like it was planned obsolescence to just stop working and have no fix forthcoming, or even an explanation to offer. If you have Gen 1’s or 2’s and Plex in stereo stopped working, upgrade to the 4’s while Amazon has this deal going and you’ll be good to go again (FINALLY)! - and with better quality sound in the bargain. Hoping to stop posting about this for the rest of my LIFE lol… The frustration is over. Wish Plex would play through the 4 speakers like everything else does, but hey 2 is better than I’ve had in a long, long time.
Unfortunately it’s still not working with the newest Echo Studio’s as a Stereo Group. Nothing changed for last half year. I am not able to use Plex since March. I can’t believe that neither Plex nor Amazon is able to solve the problem and their “highend” products are not working for this long time …
I don’t know about the latest Echo Studio’s you say aren’t working as a stereo pair since March 2021 (I’d be so pissed off, as they are $200 bucks a pop) - must be same guts as the Gen 2 Echo’s I never got to work as a pair with Plex from Alexa again since something changed. I’m just reporting back to give an updated status report, since I haven’t posted since late November or early December 2021… So, now (Jan. 17th) I wanted to report that the new Gen 4 Echo’s and the Echo Sub are still going great w/Plex via Alexa with no problems at all to report. Still using the Gen 2 Echo’s as a 2nd stereo pair, but those still won’t work with Alexa and Plex - just other streamers like Pandora, Spotify, etc. The Gen 4’s are off the Amazon $59 sale right now and are back to $99. Still worth the upgrade if you are still fighting to get the Gen 2 stereo pairs to work. They’re not coming back. That lower price for the 4’s may return though if you watch closely.

Very strange, the stereo group with the two Echo Studio Devices worked yesterday. I was able to play mp3, flac in standard and higher quality (24 bit, 96kHz) as Direct Play Stream without Problems. Today it’ the same problem again. Alexa confirms the correct song abut nothing happened.
I didn’t changed anything.
In the meantime I was not able to use my two Echo Studios as Stereo Pair since nearly half a year. No response from Plex or Amazon. Great Customer Service - Congrats
Hi, I have 4 devices, one Show, one echo and 2 dots. All Stopped working yesterday 09 Feb 2022. The music requested never starts. The Alexa skill had been running very well for several years.
I’ve updated the plex media server, I’ve turn off all devices, disabled the skill, re-enabled the skill and then powered up all devices.
Still will not play any music request.
