Windows 10 both server and laptop(s) using to connect web app
As mentioned in the description, my Roku, Galaxy S9 Android, Galaxy Tab, and Plex Windows App can all successfully connect to my server locally. Everything can connect perfectly remotely. But for some reason app.plex.tv (the web app) refuses to connect locally. If I go to app.plex.tv on the server it’ll work, but any laptop or phone connected to the same network that tries to connect to the server via the web app cannot find it. I get the “No content available. Check your network connection and verify that any media servers are online.” error. I’m not a network guy at all I’m hoping I’ve given enough detail to at least pinpoint some suggestions?
Well it’s another symptom of Verizon’s G3100 router think it’s a DNS rebind attack. Literally everything plex related works perfectly in and out of my network except for using app.plex.tv inside the network. I can just use the others apps for now but I’m curious as to why the web players traffic specifically triggers the router’s firewall. Isnt the traffic from all the apps the same?
Most other apps contain a workaround ( basically querying a different DNS server directly). A web browser cannot do that.
Therefore, to do it “right”, one has to switch to a different DNS resolver for the local network.
This can be achieved by:
cascading a second router (which does have the required preferences) behind the ISP-supplied one (requires a more complex workaround for Plex remote access, because you are then in a “double-NAT” situation)
replace the router itself with a model which has the required preference
replace the firmware of the router with something like dd-wrt, tomato, or open-wrt (of course only an option if one of these projects actually has support for this particular hardware. And there is always the danger of “bricking” it, when done improperly.
Similar trouble here.
A lightning storm took out our internet. Unfortunately we failed to predict this event and the laptops without the Windows App that connect with the Chome Web version get the following when connecting to [server IP]:32400 - Plex is not reachable. Make sure your server has an internet connection and any firewalls or other programs are set to allow access.
I get the following on my work laptop with the WAN cellular card.
sometimes this
sometimes this
Plex Web Version 4.34.4
Devices with the Windows App or the iOS app seem to connect OK.
The last time we lost internet we could connect to the server by IP locally and watch saved TV and movies. Plex seems to have improved this by breaking that ability.
