Plex Media Server Logs_2020-01-07_17-32-03.zip (3.0 MB)

I just updated my server version yesterday and as with the last update I did, I lost access to all my files. I’ve confirmed my permissions are all set correctly within Synology and don’t have a clue where to go to next.

Logs are attached. Any thoughts on how to resolve short of uninstalling/reinstalling?

Respectfully, you forgot one. “Media” share.

This isn’t Plex. This is Synology. It just does this from time to time. There is nothing we can do about it.

Did you also update DSM ?

It was working fine literally up until I updated the software. I was watching a TV show that was mismatched and went to fix it and noticed a new version. After I updated, it stopped working.
Plex is setup for read only access on Media share in File Center and in users. For some reason Plex isn’t getting through.

DSM is current. Is there a way for me to obtain and install the previous version of Plex? I hate the thought of not being able to use it at all. I’ve been on Plex since it forked from the OSX XBMC project.

On Synology,

  1. Package Center offers the same version it has for some time now.
  2. Updating the the downloadable current version requires a manual install
  3. Did you not keep the SPK after installing?

I’m sorry to disagree with you but there is nothing installing the package does with permissions. I am the author of those scripts. The only share I touch is the Plex share.

I’m confused. The Plex share is the one that’s not currently working. I’ll try downgrading to see if that solves the problem. I have no idea what you mean by “did you not keep the SPK after installing”. I don’t save the downloaded versions if that was what you meant but I did find an archive of them for synology going back to 1.16.

Are you storing anything in the Plex share?

As far as the permissions for the Plex share itself and PMS operating, with each installation, I set the permissions in the final stage of installation.

I’m a bit conused here myself because I was basing my analysis from the log file ZIP which was posted. That log file clearly shows the “Media” share doesn’t have permission. That’s what I was addressing and through you were referring to ?

Media was shared in the same way the sub-folders were. Nothing changed from the last time I updated which also caused problems. The fix back then was to remove plex from admin status and change their shares to write. Again, it literally worked minutes before the update. No changes made in DSM and DSM settings were the same after install as before.

I just uninstalled plex, the plex share and the plex user and am reinstalling to see if that resolves the issue. It’s my last shot as I was unable to revert back to the prior version.

Thanks for trying.

No luck. Even with a fresh install, I can’t gain access to my media folder. DSM permissions all read correctly to the best of my knowledge.

  • Shared folders: Plex has read only access
  • Users: Plex has read only access to my media folder

Am I missing something simple? I realllly don’t want to give up on Plex after all these years.

Update: If I move Plex into the admin group, I can see my folders. When it’s in the user group (folder permissions set to read only) it can’t. Not working as intended, but at least it working.

So I may check the boxes, please go to the Control Panel - Shared Folders.

EDIT the “Media” share and go to the Permissions tab.

What do you see? would you share with me please ?
