Files Unavailable with Update PlexMediaServer-1.15.6.1079-78232c603-x86_64 fo SYNOLOGY

Server Version#:PlexMediaServer-1.15.6.1079-78232c603-x86_64
Player Version#:

After updating Plex Server on Synology to version PlexMediaServer-1.15.6.1079-78232c603-x86_64, all files became unavailable.

Files are stil there and can be accesed. It just Plex that doesnt see to find them.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

Thank you

Seems the update change the user Plex’s permissions. If give read/write permissions to the plex user, it seems to be ok. Still testing.

Anyone know what the right permissions should be?

Thanks

As of 1.15.4.994, user plex is no longer an administrator. It doesn’t have unrestricted access to your files.

the TL;DR is

  1. Open Control Panel - Shared Folders
  2. For each share containing your media,
  3. EDIT - Permissions tab
  4. Give user plex permission to READ or READ/WRITE as you deem appropriate.

Read permission seems to be enough.

Thanks

Yes. Read-only is all you need if you’re the one doing the writing.

If you wish to optimize media, you can add R/W where appropriate.

Hi I recently have the same issue. I had already given Plex permissions to my video folders but it is still showing as unavailable. When I try to remove folders and re add I get errors that my changes cannot be saved. I am at a loss what to do next. I have two media folders and one of them is working while the other is not.

Are the files in the pre-created videos share (as provided by Sybnology) ?

Being unable to save changes implies a problem with the Plex share.

Please check it:

On the Synology:

Control Panel - Shared Folders - highlight the Plex share - EDIT - Permissions tab.
Verify user Plex has R/W at minimum to the share.

I have multiple folders and one of them the precreated videos folder still work but the other (downloads) does not. I have changed permissions many times and still doesn’t quite work.

Can you show me (screenshot) the Permissions tab for one of your media shares ?

Then, please use File Station

go to the share (left pane)
right-click the share -> Properties
Show me what the ownership / permissions are there. I suspect this is where the root problem is.

Sorry for replying late. I never get notified when a reply occurs so I just have to keep remembering to check.

First:

In your Forum profile / settings, you can enable notifications & “subscribe” to threads you reply to. This is how I receive email notifications. It saves a ton of time as well as providing a direct link.

Second:

I will assume (?) the mandatory restart of DSM has been performed.

I have seen cases where DSM’s internal database becomes argumentative. It seems this is the case here. We can resolve it ‘fairly’ easily

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Rename the bad share to something different (control panel - shared folders)
  3. Create a new share to replace it using the previous proper name on the same volume
    a. Be certain to assign username permissions. including Plex
    b. Assign any NFS/SMB share access privileges
  4. Using FileStation,
    a. Open the ‘old’ share
    b. Highlight all items contained therein
    c. Right-click and Move To -> back where the media belongs
    d. – Optional: If you’re familiar with the shell, you could sign in at the shell at this point and perform a linux-level mv command on it for instant move (truly is instant)
  5. Start Plex

Thank you!!! I was having an issue where every folder was readable except my Video folder. Creating a new one and moving files over did the trick! Plex was able to find everything right after I made the change. Thanks again!

Thank you!
