Lost 32gb of movies

Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309

After 2 days of modifying video metadata for 32gb of movies, Plex just ended and when I re-started it, the entire library was gone. WTF?

Would you mind sharing some more details?
Are the videos gone from the Plex library or from your file system?
What kind of drive is your media stored on (e.g. internal or external connected via USB or as a network drive)?
If Plex scans your library and can no longer find the files for some reason, it’ll remove the items from the library. That is unless you uncheck Empty trash automatically after every scan from Settings > Server > Library.

The videos still exist. They are stored on an external drive via USB.

Plex is acting like I just installed it.

Is the library still there (despite being empty)?

It appears to be.

In that case…

  1. go to Settings > Library and uncheck theEmpty trash automatically after every scan
  2. go back to the library itself and click Scan Library Files

If the USB drive is connected, this should re-populate the library.
Also… with this configuration… if the USB drive gets disconnected again, the items won’t be removed from the library right away.

It doesn’t seem empty. 4gb - 98,774 files

Did you swap/plug in/remove external drives recently? If so, is there any chance that the drive letter that was assigned to the USB drive before has now changed?

No new drives. But, it is now showing the movies I added. Thanks to all.

Take a break, but leave the server machine running, over night.

With media on external drives, you want this preference disabled:
Settings - Server - Library - “Empty trash automatically after every scan”

That’s what Tom80H said.

It’s Gold Star advice.

I have 2 external drives, that do not move, or sleep, and I have that setting enabled. It does exactly what it says it does. I know that.
