Allow content extras for TV series

I would also appreciate this feature. I have quite a few sets of dvd extras to go along with tv shows. Until some feature is added, here is my solution after hours of trial and error, testing for functionality:

+Create a new directory on your server - ex. E:\TV Extras

+Create subfolders for each show (or season) for which you want to access extras - E:\TV Extras\Game of Thrones Season 1

+Separating folders by season makes it easier to organize extras that don't belong in a specific season.

Then you can add folders "Season 2, 3, 4, 00..." as needed.

+In said folders, organize your content just as you would for a movie's extras, following the Extras Naming guide.

+Include a trailer or clip to represent that season (Game of Thrones Season 2.mp4) so the folder will be scraped as a movie. The name of the clip will be the title name in Plex.

+Optionally, add a cover to your show's folder so the show isn't represented by an extreme close-up of some corner of the trailer. Lol Some of them just don't look right.

+Once your structure is complete, add [ex. E:\TV Extras] to your plex server as a MOVIE library. Select Plex Movie Scanner and any Agent under the advanced library settings.

Surprise! The extras show up under their correct folder names with correct file names and not "Episode1" with no description!

From there, you can click Match or edit the titles. I don't have to bother renaming, since the file and folder names are already correct.

So there it is. My hackaround for anyone who watches behind the scenes as much as I do.

Happy streaming,

Have to give this a try.  Very creative!  :D

Of course, I DO know, as soon as I get it all set up, Plex give us a "TV Extras" section somehow.  Murphy's Law.

I will give this hack of getting some sort of TV extras a try, thank you for trying this out and providing instructions on how to do it.

This is very interesting thank you for the post.

Might actually be better setting up my tutorials this way. Looks nicer than seasons in tv shows anyway. How has this fared across the many clients?

It works on any client that allows Extras to be enabled. FireTV stick is one that does not, and that is one of my main devices. It works on everything else I've tried.

Test your client in a Movie library by selecting a movie and looking for a trailer or extras below.

Thanks for that somethingcool, I will have a go testing a few.

Edit: Grammar

I just got the new Rick and Morty season 2 blu-ray yesterday and was wondering if this was possible. I wish that TV shows could deal with extras as neatly and tidily as movies gets to. I think that @PartyMummy 's suggestion back on Page 1 was probably the best. Plex, I hope you can implement this for us!

Added my “Like” to the thread. I have been fighting try to get TV Extras to work. I will have to try some of the suggestions here in this thread. Thank you.

I have on a few occasions edited the listings in theTVDB to include the missing extras that I had.

The problem is TVDB locks up a series seemingly at will and often.

@micahespino - Much better would be if Plex just listed any files located in the Extra Folder of the series itself so there is no need to spread out related content into two separate file systems.

Specials folder can remain for Scrape-able files and if those files in the Extra folder get added to TVDB then you can rename as needed and move it into Specials.

Do we know if Plex is even considering working on this (TV Extras)?

They support whatever is listed under specials on TVDB…
In my library (TV Shows) I put the TVDB recognized content in the specials folder and anything not listed on TVDB in the Extras folder.

Works great in Kodi (XBMC) but nothing in my extras folder shows up in Plex for Movies or TV.

I started this thread 2 years ago, so I would say no. Since the capability is built in to the Movies type, it should be a no brainer to implement this. In fact just today I am fighting to get a bunch of extras to appear, and be playable in a series, I can’t believe I still have to do this.

Yes…this really would be nice to have.

This would be awesome… Not sure why it’s been delayed so long…

I would like to add my vote for this feature. @PartyMummy’s suggestion appears to be the best option so far.

I’d like to share something I’d come up with, its a combination of work I’ve done for another product, that basically links youtube trailers into the nfo files, and after using a custom version of the nfo agent, I’ve manged to get the content into the plex database, attached is the plex generated xml, isn’t it just a simple matter of enabling the trailer button, when this kind of content is linked? if so I shoule bwe a simple matter for me to do a rewrite to add local content via links, so it dosn’t mess up the existing folder structure?

Please get this implemented. Another 7 mos. gone by for something that should be pretty easy to add.

+1 x ∞

Yeah… the “Season 0” solution is no solution at all and the Plex Devs should be embarrassed for even suggesting it.

First off, TVDB really screwed up Specials to begin with. Just look at Doctor Who (2005). Half the episodes listed as Specials should be under Episodes. And now the devs want us to throw all our Extras in there too? Instead of organized by season? What are you guys smoking to think that makes any sort of sense?

Why not have TV Extras follow the same file structure as Movie Extras? You could even create a syntax that the parser will recognize as extras. Something like:

Some Awesome Show (2017) - S01EXT - Behind The Scenes.mp4

You guys need to do better. Cause putting TV Extras under Season 0 is a crappy solution.

Woo Hoo, we made the top list! keep upvoting and maybe this will be fixed someday.

I’ve been trying to figure this out for 8 months now… Just decided to finally come to the boards and post my first post because this seems like such an integral feature I cannot believe it’s been suggested so long ago and has never been given the light of day. Hoping this gets integrated and glad it finally broke the top list… though I cannot believe there aren’t more than 114 people that would like this to be implemented… Anyway, +1 from me… Really hoping this is in the works. sigh

Edit: Please keep hitting the thumbs up, “like” button of the first post if you want this to get the ears and eyes of the Plex Team. Thanks @ratmice for starting this thread and continuing to champion the effort in this thread.
