Very similar to Allow Discover to recognize subscribed channels within Amazon Prime Video, but for Apple TV channels.
For example, I went ahead and added Paramount+ as a source for Plex discovery. Then I added “Picard” to my watchlist. Cool!
But then I clicked on Picard to begin watching and received the error message that the show cannot be found. So I pushed the Siri button on the remote and said “Show me Picard”, and tvOS loaded it up in the Paramount+ Apple TV channel.
I’m a software engineer who has spent almost 2 decades poking around in these spaces, and even founded a (failed) startup that was trying to solve similar problems back in 2006–2009. I understand the complexities of all of the magic that happens behind the scenes, rights management, APIs, licensing, data sources, etc. Conversely, this is clearly broken UX for Apple TV users.
So, here’s my feedback for what I’d like to see in an improved version of the new Plex discovery/watchlist functionality.
