Allow partial airings - what exactly does this do?

When you setup advanced recording option you can set this:

Allow partial airings
Choose whether a recording may begin for an airing already in progress.

I have a programme that I want to record every day but I don’t want it to interfere with any other recordings. Should I therefore enable or disable this option?

I suppose it would depend on how many recordings and tuners available on a particular DVR. Example: Three recording at same time on a two tuner DVR won’t work. A no brainer…

What it does for me is continue to spam my plex clients with “Recording failed” when Plex chooses not to record my favorite shows.

The recording will repeatedly attempt to record even if it missed the starttime for the recording for whatever reason that may be.

You need to ensure that your recording priorities are set appropriately. That will ensure that the program in question never interferes with the other recordings.

The following article talks about how to set recording priorities.

Hmm - still don’t know what the setting does, i.e. which programme it is allowing to record partially. I guess I just ignore it and leave it enabled (by default).

Setting allows a program to start recording after the start of the show. Show starts at 8:00 but tuner is not available for some reason until 8:05. With the option unchecked Plex would not record the partial airing, with it checked it will.

Thanks johnm_ColaSC - got it now

I will leave it on.
